Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Evan Asa Ashcraft US Army Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

I have worn Sgt. Evan Ashcraft's soldier bracelet since November of 2008. I wear it along with another soldier's from the Iraq war, as well as one from Vietnam. I wear the bracelets to remind me that there are those who think beyond themselves and are willing to sacrifice everything for the good of others, no matter where they were born or what country they live, or religion they practice. That there are still men like Evan who are brave, loyal, and willing to fight when others flee. My heart goes out to his family and friends who miss his presence everyday and want them to know there is one more person keeping his sacrifice alive and spreading it every time someone asks about his bracelet.

Thank you Evan Ashcraft for having made the ultimate sacrifice. Please know that you have not been forgotten about and are still honored.

To Evans Family:
I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the honor of serving with Evan's dad in Vietnam. Looking back on my service, I would'nt have had it any other way. Tho' we had never met, I'll bet it was the same for Evan. In war, it seems as if God sometimes takes the best first. All that's left are precious memories and the assurance that our loved one is with our Lord
May the Lord bless you and yours.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Evan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !
As I sign each guestbook, I am amazed at the number of troops, who like Evan, planned on going into police work after their military service.
It speaks of their caring hearts.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Hello, I was in Evan Ashcrafts's platoon during basic training at Ft. Benning, GA in early 2000. I was actually in his squad. I decided to go through the list of those who have sacrificed their lives in the war in Iraq to see if I had any buddies that were on it. Unfortunately, I saw his name. I never made it throught basic training and therefore, never had to go to war, but I am fully aware of the fact that every day soldiers like Evan are fighting in my place. I remember him being our squad leader and displaying very excellent leadership and always seeming cool under the pressure we endured in basic. I am glad that I knew him and it breaks my heart that the last time I spoke with him he was still a soldier in training, and the next time I heard anything, he was a fallen war hero, but I am thankful for his service. I just want the Bright Family to know that I may not have passed the test, but I can see leadership in someone a mile away, and Evan had it. I am truly sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers.

I did not know Evan, but I came to read about him from an old friend of his from high school, Jennifer Spradling. Being a wife of an active Marine, my deepest sypamthies, and thoughts, go out to him and his family. I deal with the possibility of losing my husband the same way, every day. Though I do not know what you are exactly going through I can imagine. And I pray that God blesses you with closure and above all, strength to get through the days. Thank you to Evan for giving his life up for the greatest cause of all, our freedom. God bless, and stay strong.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Ashcraft family. I was very unfortunate to have never got the opportunity or pleasure to meet Evan; however, I was blessed to meet his wife Ashley. She was my daughter's first grade teacher. Ashley brings life and laughter to everyone she meets. She keeps Evan alive everyday of her life. There is never a day that goes by that she is not thinking of him. I see him through her eyes. I have come to know Ashley very well over the last year and a half and realize how special and strong she is. I pray she will continue to stay strong and live the dreams she always had with Evan. Although he is not with her in person, he will always be in her soul.
Evan, I want you to know that I will always be a very special friend to Ashley and will never let anything or anyone ever hurt her.
All my love,
Kim

I just stumbled across this guest book by accident and wish that I had found it much sooner. I searched anxiously for an outlet for my grief and just now I found this guest book. I'm so glad to discover that Evan was loved by so many people.
My family and I recently moved to AZ from San Mateo, CA - the city that adopted Evan's unit and originally started the adopt a soldier program. Evan was the soldier that my husband and I adopted. Evan wrote us to thank us for the letter and care package that we sent him and to tell us that he would love to meet us when he returned home. What tremendous handwriting for a man! WOW! We were surprised to find that he has originally from CA and were so thrilled at the prospect of meeting him one day. I was even looking into arranging for a small welcome home celebration upon his arrival.
We went to Canada in July 2003 to visit my family and returned in August. I kept wondering why Evan hadn't answered my last letter to him and was getting worried. Something led me to the website of the fallen soldiers and I went through the names alphabetically. I almost fell off my chair when I saw the name Evan Ashcraft. I thought I was going to faint as my heart was pounding so hard that it felt like it was going to exit my body. How could he be gone? Then I saw the date that he passed away, July 24th...my birthday. We had so many unanswered questions about who Evan was. I found a little information about him over the internet which provided some comfort to our grief.
This past July I celebrated my birthday with thoughts of Evan. We was our hero and we will forever remember him, his bravery and his sacrifice for our country.
Although we didn't have the opportunity to meet him he felt like family to us and made the War in Iraq and the aftermath very personal to us.
Evan will always have a special place in our hearts and our family. I will celebrate him each year that I celebrate my birthday and am so thankful that he was "in our lives", even if it was just so briefly.
To Ashley, Jane, Drew, Asa and the rest of his family and friends...we are so immensely sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts. Evan was very fortunate to have such a loving family. God bless you all!

Today I finally stopped crying long enough to search for things on the internet about Evan. I "adopted" Evan at the beginning of the year and we communicated by letter while he was in Iraq. When my last letter to Evan was returned I knew something bad had happened. I did not think that the soldier I adopted would be killed in action. I did not know Evan other than what he wrote in his letters. But I did feel he was a friend. He gave his life for me and for you. I don't know that I could do that. It takes someone special to be willing to do that. Evan was that, he was special. He will never be forgotten and I pray for his family daily.

I am in complete sorrow over Evans death.
He had been a best-friend and an old Boy-friend of mine. We had a group of Friends, back in the day, that was unbreakable. Then our Best Friend, Cheyenne had passed away April 2 1997, and now 6yrs. later Evan. When I found about Evan...my Heart broke. I am Happily Married now for, 4yrs. and have two of the most Beautiful Boy's. I did get to meet his Wife, at my Best Friend, April and Josh's Wedding. So sweet together. That was the last time that I saw Evan and Ashley. I am really, beyond words, very sad that he has passed. I still don't believe how, but it happened like that and that is reality, for all of us. I am very Lucky to have pictures and memories to look back at and cry with. I will always miss him, as he really was a Wonderfully Special Friend to me...My Heart Weeps.
In Loving Memory of Evan...Forever.
Much Love and Respect,

FROM A GOOD FRIEND & SCHOOLMATE
To The Entire Ashcraft Family:
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Evan. He was one of the closest friends I had during both my Jr. and High School years...as was Jesse. He was so great at listening and helping you through any situation. Evan was also one to keep you happy and laughing. My fondest memory of Evan would have to be during our freshman year...I couldn't always hang out so we would watch our favorite T.V. shows together over the phone (He loved the Simpsons)just about every night. And as the gentleman he was brought up to be; he would make sure to walk me home from school. There is no one other than Evan who would make a better friend.
My heart goes out to Ashley; I couldn't even imagine the pain she is in...I wish I could have met her I was always told by Evan how perfect she was. As for his sweet parents loss...I am now 7 months pregnant with a boy and the thought of EVER having to feel your pain scares me to no end. I am so very sorry....so sorry.
With My Deepest Sympathy;
Hollyn

I am so sorry for your loss. My cousin Timothy Moehling (35 years old) was killed in Iraq the first week of the war (he was flying one of the Black Hawks that went down in a mission). I know there is nothing I can say to make you feel better, but know that both of these loving people were brave beyond anything we can conceive. They are still with us in our hearts. By the way, we just had a baby a few months ago and Evan (Jacob) was going to be the name if it was a boy (she was a girl!!), but the next one will be Evan if it's a boy!!!
