Graham Green Obituary

Green, Graham DECEMBER 22, 2008 After a valiant fight, Graham Green died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma on December 22nd, at the age of 51. Graham was known for his exceptional kindness and concern for others. Ever helpful and generous with his time, Graham enjoyed doing home repairs for family and friends. Pondering how such a sweet and good man could be taken from us so soon, brother-in-law Elliot said, 'God must have needed Graham to do some fixing up for Him around heaven!' Graham was an avid cyclist who routinely rode 22 miles to work each way, and completed many multi-day rides, including cycling across Iowa (RAGBRAI) and Utah (LAGBRAU). Graham was also a talented gardener and photographer. Graham was a member of Congregation Beth Jacob in Redwood City, CA, and greatly valued his Jewish heritage. Born in Massachusetts, Graham grew up in Danville, Illinois and graduated with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University. He worked in biotech firms in Cambridge, Research Triangle Park, St. Louis and South San Francisco over a 20 year career, and was thankful that he was working at Genentech when he became ill because his co-workers have been incredibly supportive and caring. Graham will be deeply missed by his wife Lee, who feels lucky to have been married to the nicest man in the world for 20 years. Graham is also survived by his brother Gary Green and stepmother Frada Green. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he enriched, including his cousins and aunt and uncle, with whom he had a particularly close bond.Services Graveside service Friday, December 26th, 11 a.m. at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Rd. in Chesterfield, MO. Lee- I was so sad to see the notice of Graham's passing. We knew each other during grad school at UMDNJ and you and I met at your wedding. I cannot say enough to do justice to his personality. He was sweet, smart, kind and wonderfully inquisitive. I am happy that you had so many good years together. Be well and let those memories carry you.

Dear Lee, I was so sorry to hear the news about Graham today. I guess news doesn't spread as fast as we thought for some things. The thing I remember most about Graham was his gentleness and his love for you. I remember how kind he was and what a good time we had so many years ago. I will never forget dinner at the Oregon Club and what a great time we all had.

All my best,

Graham,
During the short time I worked with you, you left a strong impression upon me about what it means to work through tough situations. I am sorry to hear about your passing but at the same time I know that you were meant for greater things. It was my pleasure to have known you.

Graham was always very supportive and kind when I worked with him at Wyeth BioPharma and later Centocor in St. Louis. I am deeply saddened by his passing. Lee, thank you for writing the blog. Otherwise, I would not have understood how valiantly and graciously the two of you fought this battle with his illness. May God bless and keep you while you continue your life's journey. Regards,

We just learned of Graham's death and were sorry we didn't get to say good-bye. We both worked for Graham at Wyeth/Centocor in St. Louis and know what a warm and caring person he was. We wish his family comfort at this time of great loss, but we are sure Graham will be rewarded in heaven.

Graham, You fought a hard fight, cousin..and you never gave up. Somehow, you kept the faith, and kept smiling, even when you were hurting. I admire your courage and strength, and hope that someday, I will be that strong and courageous as you were, and will find it in me to be able to laugh in the face of adversity. I'm sorry we never had the chance to ride together, but someday, we will...I hope it's not for a long while....but, save a spot in the paceline for me...I'll be there eventually. Love and miss you!

It has been a pleasure and honor to know both Graham and Lee. What a special couple. Graham fought so valiantly against this impossible disease and he was an inspiration to many.

Take comfort, Lee, in your precious little Micki.

Graham - Keep on riding ! Ride across the heavens. Remember when you think you are listening to your iPod, you are really listening to the prayers from your dear relatives and friends. You will be missed dearly by every life that you touched. Your life is one that anyone would be proud to have lived.
