Marcella Weibel Obituary

Marcella Elizabeth Weibel, 91, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. Born May 6, 1918 in Valley Falls, KS to Charles W. (Fred) and Maude (Eshom) McClenny. She attended Oskaloosa and Valley Falls, KS schools. Marcella married Everett Weibel on Sept. 1, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1978 after 43 years of marriage. Marcella was active in taking care of her family, being involved in the childrens activities, going to their baseball games and taking them to their music lessons. She enjoyed the familys ski boat and taking vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks. She worked at the VA Hospital as a Physician Aide and was nominated as Physician Aide of the year in 1950. She later worked at the United Methodist Home for 28 years, 22 of those years as Director of Housekeeping. After her retirement in 1991, she was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. After the diagnosis she could no longer drive, but still remained active in her church, Oakland United Methodist Church and other activities, taking several nice trips, including Washington, DC, New York, Branson, MO and a fall foliage trip. Survivors include her three sons, Fred Weibel, Robert (Sandy) Weibel, all of Topeka and John Weibel of Leawood, KS; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and her sister, Marlene Parrett. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Marcella will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. today with a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive, Topeka, KS 66614 or Oakland United Methodist Church, 801 NE Chester Avenue, Topeka, KS 66616.
