PAW PAW, Ky. — Hubbert Scarberry, 81 years of age of Paw Paw, Ky., passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his home following a brief illness. Born in Pike County, Ky., he was the son of the late Hollie and Grace Pruitt Scarberry. He was a lifelong resident of Pike County, Ky., and was of the Protestant Faith. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a logger, farmer and retired school bus driver for the pike county board of education. Mr. Scarberry is survived by his wife of over 60-years: Sylphia Thacker Scarberry of Paw Paw, Ky.; three daughters: Charlotte and husband Ted Daniels of Hurley, Va., Allene and husband Bobby Collins of Kimper, Ky., Roberta and daughter Shiana Justus of Hurley, Va.; five sons: Gary and wife Melinda Scarberry of Stopover, Ky., Larry and wife Mary Scarberry of Hurley, Va., Ronald and wife Deborah Scarberry of Logan, W.Va., Jerry and wife Martha Scarberry of Roseanne, Va., Joey and son Colby Scarberry of Pounding Mill, Va.; two sisters: Sarah Dotson of Hurley, Va., Joan Adkins of Bluefield, Va.; three brothers: Clifford Scarberry of Fenton, Mich., Lige Scarberry of Hurley, Va.; Douglas Scarberry of Paw Paw, Ky. Also, survived by 12 grandchildren: Carla Sanders, Havanna Grace Scarberry, Deanna Sue Estep, Larry Hubbert Scarberry, Stephanie Scarberry, Jessica Scarberry, Gwen Anderson, Sara Boyd, Evan Scarberry, Jerel Scarberry, Colby Scarberry and Shiana Justus and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister: Elizabeth Scarberry and two brothers: Hollie Eugene Scarberry and Hufford Scarberry. Funeral services for Hubbert Scarberry will be conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Dotson and Rev. Tony Shrader officiating with burial to follow at the Scarberry Cemetery, Paw Paw, Ky. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
