Elda Nyre
Elda Louise Nyre, 87, Bismarck, died June 25, 2009, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Douglas Bergelin and Thomas R. Marcis Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elda was born Feb. 12, 1922, the daughter of Theodore and Minnie (Heike) Schultz at Gilmanton, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gilmanton. Elda was educated in Gilmanton, graduating from high school in 1939.
Elda married Joseph Nyre on July 6, 1940. They lived in Mondovi, River Falls, Rapids, Orfordville, Beloit and Madison, Wis., before coming to Bismarck in 1970. Elda was always active in her church, serving as a Sunday School and Bible teacher, and other church organizations. At Bismarck Zion Lutheran she served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, also as a member of the LWML, Nursery Roll Circle, Large Print Org., and as a member of the Board of Evangelism.
In '95, she moved to Crescent Manor where she enjoyed many happy years among her peers, and serving on the board of Burleigh Co. Council on Aging, the Crescent Tenant Board, RSVP and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Elda and Joe spent many pleasant years traveling and camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, rejoicing in five generations.
She is survived by her daughter, Llona Sailing, Bismarck; two sons, Michael (Mary Jane), Rockford, Ill., and Joseph (Dee), Beloit, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jenifer (Russell) Bentz and Paul Sailing, all of Wing, Michael Sailing, Bismarck, Kathi (Cale) Mauel, Footville, Wis., Dr. Joseph Nyre (Kelli), Springfield, Ill., and Sue Long, Naperville, Ill.; two stepgrandsons, Jerry (Jennifer) Gunn, Machesney Park, Ill., and James Gunne, Janesville, Wis.; 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eileen Smiskey, Eau Claire, Wis.; her brother, Harlen Schultz, Berthoud, Colo.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elda was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her daughter, Ronada; her brother, Kenneth; and her parents.
