Seth Coellner Obituary

KENSINGTON — Seth M. Coellner, 36, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, as the result of a boating accident in Newburyport, Mass.

He was born Feb. 5, 1973, in Exeter, the son of Mark J. Coellner and Eleanor (Hilliard) Cormier.

He was a graduate of New Hampshire Vocational College as a master plumber. He served his country honorably as a seaman and as a small craft boatswain with the United States Coast Guard aboard the Tamaroa based in Portsmouth.

Mr. Coellner was the founder and owner of SMC Plumbing and Heating Contracting.

He is survived by his wife, Siobhan (Meehan) Coellner of Kensington; two daughters, Penelope Wren and Piper Blue, both of Kensington; his father, Mark J. Coellner of Hampton Falls; his mother and stepfather, Eleanor and Kenneth Cormier of York, Maine; two brothers, Silas and his wife Diane (Fortini) Coellner and their children, Cedar James, Seth Paul, and Sage Eleanor, of Fairhaven, Mass., and Samuel Coellner of Hampton Falls; his grandmother, Mary Barker of Stratham.

WE REMEMBER: He is also survived by five aunts, Susan (Hilliard) Noble of Marblehead, Mass., Allysan (Hilliard) Drew of St. Augustine, Fla., Nan W. Coellner of Boston, Mari Crane of Georgia and Roseanne Chang of Winchester, Mass.; three uncles, Frank Hilliard of Reading, Mass., Russell Hilliard of Hampton Falls and James Coellner of Philadelphia; and 16 cousins, Cathren Witteveen, Chrisie Noble, Caren DiNardo, William Drew, Carolyn Drew, Taylor Hilliard, Spencer Hilliard, Mary Sanchez, Raymond Chang, Anne-Marie Chang, Katie Chang, James Chang, Paul Crane, Catherine Crane, and Melissa Crane.

He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Robert C. and Margaret T. Hilliard, James A. Coellner and Edmund Barker; and one cousin, Matthew R. Drew.

He was blessed with many gifts and talents. He was an artist as well as a craftsman. He could design and craft whatever he needed from custom fishing rods to a home he built for his family. He was on the leading edge of developments in his chosen trade. He personified independent thinking never accepting status quo always thinking outside the box.

He was a leader with a magnetic personality. People were drawn to the positive energy he brought to his work and recreation. He was loyal to and always looking out for his closest of friends.

He loved fishing and won many tournaments along the east coast. He held a USCG captain's license, and had a dream of being a charter fisherman. His final known act in life saved the lives of the three men aboard the downed vessel.

Mr. Coellner was a committed husband and devoted father. Siobahn and his two girls were his pride and joy. He became an integral part of the Meehan family who loved and cherished him as their own. He often spoke glowingly of the relationship he shared with his father-in-law Joe and his mother-in-law Rosalie.

His family members express their deep gratitude for all the men and women who risked their lives to rescue and continue to search for him tirelessly.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be private.

We are both very sorry for the loss of Seth. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of his family and friends... I remember growing up in Hampton Falls & playing with Seth at his grandparents house on Drinkwater Road. Seth was always up for having fun - tag, wiffle ball, kickball, sledding across the street from Blue Chip Farm, exploring the woods, catching chickens, camping out, riding go-karts, building forts... I will not forget the fun we had growing up together. Seth is in our thoughts and prayers.

Seth, you were a kind, smart, and very fair business man who helped us greatly with our home and we miss you. Most importantly, we will always remember the stories you told regarding your love and appreciation of your wife and daughters. The last story you told about teaching Penelope how to track an animal's footprint was so endearing. There is comfort in knowing your wife and daughters will be loved and cared for by both your families and so many friends. . God Bless you always. With deepest sympathy and prayers for Gods Grace to touch all of those who had the honor of knowing you. Phil and Audrey Dean (Exeter,NH)

To Seth: May you rest in peace. We knew you when you were young and you sprayed water all over Jon when he was in a lawn chair. He had a bad back and you made him jump with the cold water. I remember seeing you skateboard down the middle of Rt. 1 in Hampton Falls. You were and are a free spirit. You were also a kind person and moved to the beat of your own drum. We loved you. Our sincere condolences to all of your family.

Dear Siobhan - I was so saddened to learn about Seth. You have my heartfelt sympathies for you, your girls, Sam, and the whole Coellner/Hilliard families. I will always remember you and Seth coming to Unity to visit us - Seth riding his Harley that he had rented, and letting Bill get a big thrill riding it after all these years - that was a highlight for him - and I remember the delicious dinner that Seth cooked for us all. I always felt happy when I saw him and his goodness will be carried on and remembered by those he touched. May you find a peace within, knowing that Seth loved you and his family and was truly loved by others. I believe he is going ahead to make a better place for all of us - God only takes the ones that are very special - and he was. With love and profound sorrow for your loss. Susan and Bill Russell

Seth was above and beyond what life is all about. He was an old soul who had a positive outlook on life. I was in awe with his Elephant tatoo, and let me know that the Elephant has the longest memory of all species, and he also tought me abstract art and ceramics. Most of all I could always feel his sincerity of his compassion and positivity. I am sorry that he was taken so early in life, but am honored and blessed that I was able to be friends with such a great man.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
