Brian Hellermann Obituary
SALISBURY -- SSgt. Hellermann, 35, out of Fort Bragg, NC, was killed in action Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in Iraq.
Funeral service is 1:00 PM Thursday, August 14, at the James C. Lyerly Chapel, with Dr. Billy Ray Huffman, Pastor of Parkdale Baptist church and Chaplain of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne officiating. Interment with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne will be in Rowan Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM Thursday at Lyerly Funeral Home, prior to the service.
SSgt. Hellermann was born January 6, 1968 in Freeport, MN, to Mrs. Caroline Boecker Hellermann Erickson and the late Laverne Hellermann. He was educated in the Freeport, MN schools, and had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division
SSgt. Hellermann is survived by his wife, Michelle Livengood Hellermann of the home, whom he married September 11, 1992; son, Travis Hellermann of the home; daughter, Katelyn Hellermann of the home; mother and step-father, Caroline Boecker Erickson and Wally Erickson of Freeport, MN; sisters, Michelle Wolbeck of Great Eagle, MN and Sue Ritter of Freeport, MN; as well as several step-brothers and step-sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Family Readiness Group, c/o Bonnie Haight, Second Battalion, 325 AIR, Ft. Bragg, NC 28307.
Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Hellermann family.

I was assigned to Charlie Company, 2/325 AIR. I was not physically present when SSG Hellermann was mortally wounded as i was in a different platoon. I did know him to be a quiet, conservative man that was patriotic, and very concerned about his family. I also remember that he never had anything negative to say about anyone. He just did his job the best that he could. I am honored to have known him. My respects and sincere condolences to his family.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

Had the honor of knowing Brian. Had family in the 325 and was a 505 wife. I was at company HQ with my relative when call came in. It was a horrible day on base for all.

We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Brian in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Sgt. Brian R. Hellermann, our HERO. The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 27 May, 2007. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “Remembering” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. I was just thinking about SSG Hellerman this Memorial Day weekend. I am very proud of him and his service to our country. We served together on an M60 team in Weapons Squad, 3rd Plt. B co. 4/325th 82nd Airborne. We were in Operation Just Cause.
Anyway, I've visited this site a number of times but never left a message - I wasn't sure if it was appropriate since I'm not family, etc.
I just wanted to say, he is remembered by his peers.

Brian was a brother to me. A brother that I was never able to have. He treated me with the utmost respect and I treated him with the same. I remember when Brian would come home on the weekends and we would go running or just hang out with one another acting like a bunch of fools. To this day almost 3 years after your death, I continue to carry the patch he was wearing on that tragic day inside my body armor while I work.
Brian, you will never be forgotten and will forever be in my heart.

Brian and I served toghether in Cco 1/504 PIR same platoon, same squad before I became a squad leader in 1st platoon. WE were roomates and best of freinds. Brian brought my wife, Jennifer and I together and there will never be a better gift from anyone than Brian introducing us. In the years that have past me by never have I met; a more loving man to his family, a more giving and friendly man , a more passionate American. You only run across a man like Brian, if you are lucky, once in a lifetime. Jennifer and I will always be thankful to you Brian. We miss you.

I served with Brian in the 82nd Airborne Division, 4th Bn. 325th A.I.R, the "Gold Falcons" for four years. I was in Alpha Company and he was in Bravo with a high school friend of mine. That is how I got to know him. Brian would catch rides home with me to Salisbury to see his soon to be wife. He was a great soldier and a friend, always smiling. I take my two boys to his grave sight every Aug. and place an American flag to show honor and respect for someone who loved his country and fellow Americans!
