Delmar Eugene "Gene" Ferrell, 86, died Sunday (Aug. 2, 2009) at Ruby Memorial Hospital.Gene was born June 20, 1923, in Rivesville, a son to the late Edgar Clay and Lessie Lee DeVault Ferrell of Little Falls, where Gene continued to live and raise his family. Gene loved his home among the hills.In his younger years Mr. Ferrell sang on local radio and was known as "E. Ranger Ferrell" before joining the U.S. Army to serve his country. His tour of duty included three years in World War II and one and a half years with the 14th Infantry of the 71st Division of the European Theater Operation.Gene was happily married for 63 years to his wife Eleanor Mae Laird Ferrell. They were married on Aug. 17, 1946.In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by four children, Kenneth L. Ferrell and wife Gail of Little Falls, Linda Lee Edgell and husband Herbert "Dave" Edgell Jr. of Morgantown, Laura Kay Malone and husband Timothy of York, Pa., and Lana Jean Gemas and husband Marvin "Dube" Gemas of Morgantown. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Eric Ferrell, Amanda Kusich, Dave Edgell III, Pamela Smith, Maria Sites, Robert Hussion, Zachary White, Alison Westfall and Mark Gemas; and 10 great-grandchildren, Louis Edgell, Reese Edgell, Amber Sites, Madelyne Sites, Lauren Hussion, Sarah Hussion, Tyler Hussion, Alec Failor, Josh Failor and Eli Thompson.Family and friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home from 3 to 8:30 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. A celebration of life will be performed by the Rev. Thomas Shepherd at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pisgah Cemetery on Route 73 Old Smithtown Road, Morgantown, with military honors conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916 and WV ARNG Honor Guard of Camp Dawson.Online condolences may be offered at www.fredjenkinsfuneralhome.com.
