Laurie and I worked on various aspects of 73kHz and 136kHz and I always found him cheerful and helpful even though he didn't enjoy the best of health. His LF station produced the strongest signals on the LF bands, which will be sadly missed.
My condolences and simpathy to Kathreen and the family.

My first signal received on the 137 kHz was that of Laurie... will never forget that,

Now he is enjoying a broader vision of the reality, and the eternal peace is with him.

It is sad to hear that Laurie passed away.
His activity on the bands and contributions on the longwave e-mail reflector were an inspiration to many others.
I will remember our QSO's on 136kHz and 500kHz.
My condolences to his family.

I was very sad to hear of Laurie's passing. We enjoyed many hours attempting to exchange LF signals between England and New Zealand. It was always a pleasure to hear his cheery voice on 80m at our sunset.

I am greatly saddened to hear Laurie has passed away, and wish the deepest sympathy to his family and friends. I came to know Laurie through his pioneering amateur radio activities, but will also remember him for being the gentleman that he was.

Laurie was a true pioneer of the Low Frequency radio bands. His transmissions spanned the Oceans and united radio amateurs in many different countries. He and I corresponded frequently in recent times, and he was planning new projects for the 500 kHz band just a few weeks before his death. He will be sorely missed by our community.

Laurie and I never met in person but he and I exchanged so many emails I considered him a close friend. I'll never forget how excited he way when I first received his 135 KHz beacon. When he received my QSL for the reception he replied:

"Good morning Dexter,
I was thrilled to receive a very special card in the mail this morning. You
may be sure that it will be displayed proudly in a prominent place on the
shack wall.
I had not realized you had spent so much time looking for my signals and
would like to thank you for your perseverance. I am sorry if I sounded
doubtful at first, it
was totally unexpected"

A true gentleman that I wish I met in person.

I am Polish radio amateur, member of the LF_reflector. I have just read again Laurie posts to this 137/184/500 khz group....
A perfect and beautiful example of a man being always open to new ideas and sharing His enormous experience with others.
My deepest condolences to the family

Laurie gave up some of his well earned sleep to radiate a single all the way to Alaska on 137Khz - it was his dedication, and his peers that pushed me forward. I last talked to Laurie when he succesfully put a signal, albeit weakly, into China a few months ago on the same band - some going that, and I knew at the time he wasnt well, and still gave up some of his bedtime. My deepest respects and thoughts to his family at this time.

I followed Laurie's radio experiments with great interest, from the UK and later from France. He showed that an old dog could learn many new tricks.

Language is not sufficient but I shall be thinking of him and his family.

I am French radio amateur, Laurie was the perfect model one of our passion, it was a pioneer of the transatlantic tests on the long wave. All my sympathy with its family, peace with you Laurie.
