Nellie Bumgarner

Nellie Bumgarner, 92, of Stillwater, Okla., died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.She was born on Dec. 22, 1916, to Thomas Henry Lowry and Hattie Lugerthe Newland in Elk Falls, Kan. She married Arless James Bumgarner in Chandler, Okla., on Sept. 27, 1934.She was educated in Meridian and Luther schools. After marriage, Nellie and Arless lived in Fallis, then in Jones, and moved to Stillwater in 1944. They then moved to Mannford in 2003. She worked at Oklahoma State University in housekeeping at the Home Economics Department.She loved dancing and was very crafty. She made her own clothes and quilts. She loved to cook. You would never leave her house hungry. She really enjoyed watching baseball and playing marbles.She was a member of the 9th Avenue Christian Church.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son Delbert Thomas; three children, five brothers, five sisters and two great great grandchildren.She was survived by one daughter, Mary Frances Werelus of Edmond, Okla.; one sister, Ina Townsley of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn Tabler of Mannford, Okla., and Patricia Sears- Bumgarner of Salina, Kan; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.Condolences may be e-mailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
