JOHN BALAS Obituary

BALAS (BALLASH), JOHN LA MESA - John was born of immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia in Sharon, PA, on June 20, 1927, and passed away at Alvarado Hospital from heart failure on September 21, 2009. He had suffered a stroke earlier this year. He lived in Massillon, OH, where he attended Massillon High School. He joined the Merchant Marines and afterward was drafted into the U.S. Army. He married Delores Sharrock on July 29, 1945, and had one daughter. In 1954, they moved to San Diego with Delores' parents, located in La Mesa, where he resided until he passed away. He was the General Contractor for Greenwood Mortuary for 30 years and built the mausoleum. He retired from Greenwood in 1984 and enjoyed traveling and bridge. Later in life he enjoyed bingo at the local casinos. He is survived by his wife Delores Balas (1945 - 2003), daughter and son-in-law, Bobbi and Mike Medico, his sisters, Mary Jane Snyder, Milly Piacente and Tilly Hahn, grandchildren, Gina Medico, Mark Medico, Scott Medico and Keith Medico, and great-grandchild-ren, Elizabeth Medico, Audrey Medico, Crystal Medico and Carmel Smith. He will be loved and remembered by all. Memorial Service will be on October 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Last Supper located in the Greenwood Bible Mausoleum. Entombment will be for family immediately after the Service.

Dear Bobbi:

I know if Becky were alive, she would be with you in your sorrow. I do remember your parents well. Your father was always fun and kind to Becky and I . I know you will miss him greatly, but know that he lived a long life and shared it with all of you. My blessings and condolence. Jorja Austin
