NORTH ANDOVER — Patricia Byrne of North Andover passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 2009 at Lawrence General Hospital following a two-year struggle with cancer.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y. in 1940, Pat graduated from Mary Louis Academy in New York City. She worked in production for ABC News in New York before starting her family.
Pat had lived in Andover or North Andover since 1974. Known for her lively personality, Pat was a fixture on the Merrimack College campus for 33 years. She began her career at the Merrimack College Bookstore as a part-time cashier and managed the bookstore for more than 20 years before retiring in 2007.
For many years, she had volunteered her time to the Bread and Roses Mission in Lawrence. She also enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends. Her energy and companionship will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Ryan; sons, Kevin and Peter; a sister, Catherine Schlupf; two brothers, Robert and Thomas Barrell; and four grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at the Merrimack College Chapel, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at 3 p.m. on the college campus, near the intersection of Route 114 and Route 125. A reception will be held at the Loft in North Andover following the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover.
