It was a pleasure knowing and working with Mary at WGSO. She was a beautiful person inside and out and was there to lend a helping hand wherever she could. She will be dearly missed, but remembered always. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family in this time.

I didn't know Mary that well, although I was practically living at the Latter home on Garden Lane while growing up. I lived two doors down the lane and spent a lot of time with the girls - Patty, Kathy and sometimes Mary. My sympathies to her family and her mother and sisters that I remember so well. I'm sure she was well loved and a fun person to be around. She will likely be missed by many.

When Sophocles was asked why he continued to create characters that were stylized and predictable when Euripides was crafting characters who were more unpredictable and lifelike, Sophocles replied, "Euripides portrays people as they are. I make them as they ought to be."

Mary Latter was the way people ought to be: Good, kind, generous, loving, brilliant, fun, funny.... living her life in the palm of God's hand.

I and so many whom she touched are by far the better for having known her.

I was so sad to hear of Mary's passing. She was such a fun loving person. It has been a good while since I saw her last, but it was at Jazz Fest and we were so happy to see each other.
To the family:
I hope your fond memories of Mary will help you get through this rough time. She will be missed.

Taps, for Mary.

Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh -- Falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Then good night, peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright;
God is near, do not fear -- Friend, good night.

Mary Dee was the best. She was a great mother, gradmother and long time friend. I remember riding in her Mustang to spend Easter vacation on the coast and listening to the Doors on her 8 track. We were so cool. I also remember the Thanksgiving that Mary and Laura and Andrew spent with us in New Orleans when my daughter was so sick. As Ambra would say, "She was a humdinger". I cannot think back and laugh about how many nights we spent partying and "running the streets"; singing with Jennifer Flowers, eating Lucky Dogs at 3:00 AM for dinner, meeting tourist at Pat O'Brians and "borrowing" their glasses to fund our next stop ... Over the last 50+ years she shared good times and sad times, and I loved her every step of the way. Carole Glazer-Jacobson told me how Mary would call her and say, "rest up, Annie's coming to town" and sure enough she was their to rally and laugh until the sun came up. I will miss her deeply and my heart goes out to her wonderful children and family and to Tom that I felt like I knew, but never had the pleasure of meeting.

With much love and fond memories,

Here's to a very dear person in Mary Latter who always did everything possible to know the people around here at WGSO radio. Behind the scenes I don't think anyone could have asked for someone better to help keep the station running while making sure the employees were doing well personally. I was affiliated with the station in 2007 doing weather and Mary's periodic e-mails were always delightful yet to the point on the issues of the day. I also remember how Mary would let the staff borrow her covertible for Mardi Gras parades so WGSO would have someone nice to ride in while interacting with parade goers. Mary will be greatly missed and many sympathies to her family at this time, God Bless and take care. Sincerely, William Taylor, Thibodaux [email protected]
