BELVEDERE, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mr. Clifton Lee Bates, 96, of Belvedere, SC, who entered into rest February 4, 2010, will be conducted this Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mr. Bates was a native of Oconee County, Georgia having made Belvedere his home for the past 76 years. He was a member of the Belvedere First Baptist Church and retired from Clearwater Finishing Plant with 40 years of service. Mr. Bates was the husband of the late Marguerite Turner Bates. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Helen Bates, North Augusta, Charles and Grace Bates, Merriwether Community and Warren Keith Bates, Belvedere; a brother, Sam Bates, North Augusta; two sisters, Jewel Dunagan, North Augusta and Sara Turner, Aiken; a sister-in-law, Clarice Bates, North Augusta; 6 grandchildren, Robbie Bates, Leonard Bates, Glenn Bates, Matthew Bates, Margaret Baumer and Marissa Bates, a step grandson, Nickolas Gavalas; 5 great- grandchildren, Clifton Bates, Brittany-Lee Baumer and Cody Baumer, Anthony Gavalas, Alyssa- Kay Gavalas. Pallbearers will be Deacons of the Belvedere First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Belvedere First Baptist Church Forward in Faith, PO Box 8168, North Augusta, SC 29861. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bates, 716 Sage Court, North Augusta, SC. Posey Funeral Directors of North Augusta in charge of arrangements.
