MOUNT UPTON - William F. Edgett, 81, formerly of the Mount Upton-Guilford area, passed away Friday evening, Feb. 26, 2010, in the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta, where he made his home for the past several years.
Born in Guilford in August of 1928, Bill was the son of August and Neva Willis Edgett.
Bill was a lifelong resident of the Mount Upton-Guilford area and had attended the local schools. Following his schooling, he served his country in the United States Navy.
Over the years he had worked as a self-employed contractor and logger in many of the local communities. Set in his ways, Bill had a bit of a stubborn streak and was from the "old school." In his spare time he loved to fish and hunt.
Bill is survived by his sons, Mitch Edgett and his wife, Rebecca of Mount Upton, Richard Edgett and his wife, Teresa of Sidney, Matthew Edgett and his wife, Robin of Dover, Del., and William Edgett of Long Island; his stepchildren, Robert Reynolds and his wife, Linda of Coventry, Ronald Reynolds and his wife, Darlene of Bainbridge, Ellen Duke of Oxford, Cathy Reynolds of Georgia and Terry Sue Reynolds of Norwich; and his sister, Helen Cox. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Chad Edgett and his companion, Stacey Day of Maine, Cory Edgett of Mount Upton, Brandon Knicklebine and his wife, Lindsey of Greene, Cody Edgett and his wife, Holly of Georgia, Nathan Edgett of Mount Upton, Jesse May and his wife, Jennifer of Maryland, Amy Lopez and her husband, Jeffrey of Melbourne, Fla., and Gretchen and George Holbert of Sidney; as well as several great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie; and brother, Gilbert.
Private graveside services for Bill will be held in the spring from the Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Upton.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Dad will always be in my memories and held dear to my heart. I still remember the good times at Seneca Lake and the barbecues. Most of all I will cherish his love for all of us he had and shared. Again, my deepest sympathy goes out to you all.
