Effie Lightsey, of Valdosta died on Friday, April 30, 2010 after a full life of 93 years. She was born in Cook County Georgia on Sept. 29, 1916 to the late Curtis and Scrappie Selph Hayes. She was a retired sales associate with Fashions Direct and was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Larry Gariety of Lake Park; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Phyllis Lightsey of Hahira; grandchildren, Tony Gariety of Valdosta, Douglas and Debra Lightsey of Moultrie, and Travis Lightsey of Macon; great-grandsons, Hayes and Davis Lightsey of Moultrie; two sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Lloyd Martin of Adel, and Lois Ray of Nashville, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Carroll Lightsey.
Services for Effie Lightsey will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Pamela Lightsey officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
