It's been 7 years ago. We remember the notification day so clearly. Just a few words in just a few seconds, but our lives were changed forever. My son was a true American Hero. He continues to touch the lives of others. He was and continues to be a positive influence to so many.

Today is the observance of Gold Star Mother's Day, a day to publicly express love, sorrow, & reverence to mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the line of duty while serving the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifice for Our Nation never ends, Honor them.
To Lynn, I just saw this on the Seal of Honor page on facebook.
Your son was such an inspiration to everyone he knew. I always remember seeing him smile and was a great person to be around.

Sgt. Andrew Joseph Baddick is the name of the soldier that jumped in the water to try and rescue Darrin. After meeting and serving with Darrin I know that He would have done the same thing if reveresed. Both men lost their lives doing what they loved and believed in. NEVER FORGET

I was in the police explorers program with him...he also introduced me to the Army MP idea. I didn't know him well, but I knew him well enough to trust his judgement.
I was deployed to the exact same area and job he was performing a year later.

Darrin, I miss you more everday. I go to Cave Hill several times a month and visit with you. I talk to you tell you whats going on in my life. Just like old times. I miss my "little buddy" and all the crazy things we did. The ARMY Christmas party that you took me too. How much fun did we have that night. That night over tops all the other nights. However, most of the time we just set at your apt and cooked food and no-bakes that we hated and watched movies before we would set up and talk all night. I miss that so much. I can't call you and have plans that night. I do know however that you are still hear with me and that gets me through. Looking at pics of you and then I see all Matt's pics of you all over there it just kills me inside because I miss you so much. But I have to move on for you and just let everyone else know what an amazing man you are. I will see ya on the other side sometime in the future. Darrin is truly missed. I tend to see Darrin in different people I pass in life. They remind me of his smile, his laugh, his personality. Darrin was a good friend and I think of him often. I had the pleasure of serving with SGT Potter when we were in Camp Bucca Iraq. He was in a unit that was part of our Battalion. He was with the 233 MP Company. I was with the 724th MP BN. Very nice person always had a smile on his face. True Hero thank you. Gone but not forgotten.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I served with Sgt Potter in Iraq with the 800th Military Police Brigade and there is never a day that does not go by where I do not think of him. I knew him and found him to be a good natured funny person. I pray for him and his family every day.

I served with Darrin in Bosnia when I was with the 223rd MP Co. I was in Kuwait when Darrin passed away. I heard from some of our mutual friends I ran into. I did not know Darrin very long, but in the time I did know him he was always an enjoyable conversationalist with a great sense of humor. May he rest in peace and I extend my sorrowful regrets to his family.

The service was a beautiful tribute. It was good that those of us who knew him only as a young man were able to glimpse a bit of his life as a child.

I graduated with Darrin from Butler. He was always someone we could count on to make us laugh and always seemed to know when you needed the most. He was a great guy and the class of 97 joins you as you mourn his death. He will truly be missed. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Darrin. Darrin always seemed to be the light of the room, and always knew how to make someone smile. We have lost a true friend to all. I did not know Darrin personally, but I worked with Lynn at A.F. I am a very patriotic person and it saddens me when anything happens to any of our men & women in uniform. When I saw Lynn's face in that picture in the Courier, though, I just broke down and cried. That night I performed the Anthem at an American Speed Association race in Salem, IN. The officials had seen Darrin's story on the news that morning and made it a point to honor him in their opening ceremonies before the race as a true hero. I am very sorry for your loss.

I look into my 3yr old sons' eye's and I could never imagine my life without him. I went to school with Darrin at Butler. Darrin is a good man, always was, always will be. He's a HERO. I held my young son as I said goodbye to Darrin Monday and I looked into the eye's of a remarkable Mother and Father. My heart broke as I looked into their eye's.
