James Dowling Obituary
A visitation for James "Jimbo" Karl Dowling, 76, will be held Monday August 8, 2011, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with a funeral at 5:00 PM at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Road, Anchorage, with Chaplain Edward Ash officiating. Burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jim died on August 2, 2011, at St. Elias Specialty Hospital from complications of a heart attack. He was born on April 6, 1935, and was a lifelong Alaskan resident. He received his Civil Engineering degree from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana and went on to successfully manage his own firm, Dowling & Associates, until he retired. He was highly respected in his profession.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and collector, and loved to square dance. According to his family, he "laughed a lot and loved the outdoors."
Jim is survived by his wife, Lana Dowling of Anchorage; two sons, Greg Dowling of Nashville, Indiana and Joel Dowling of Indianapolis, Indiana; two daughters, Valerie Lantz of Nashville, Tennessee and Renee Stantz of Indianapolis, Indiana; the mother of his children, Vivian Dowling of Monrovia, Indiana; two brothers, Andy Dowling of Wasilla and Rod Dowling of Anchorage; seven grandchildren and six nieces & nephews.

My thoughts are with Jim's family. Jim was a long time family friend of my parents and it was always nice seeing him as he just lit up the room with his laughter and smiles. I saw him recently at a Fur Rendezvous Event and spent some time talking to him.
