Alphonse VOGEL

1914 - 2011

Alphonse Francis Vogel passed away on November 6, 2011 in Houston at the age of 97.
Alphonse was born on August 18, 1914 in Muenster, Texas to Emil and Anna Kleiss Vogel. He married Julia Ann Hajovsky on July 4, 1941. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia, his sons Wayne Edward Vogel and Gerard Neal Vogel, his daughter-in-law Sanjuana Aguillera Vogel, his parents Emil and Anna, and his siblings, Joseph, Alois, Theodore, Ray, Lawrence, Ludwina, Raymond, and Emil.
Alphonse attended grade school in Muenster and graduated from high school at Subiaco Academy in Arkansas. He later studied accounting at South Texas School of Law and Commerce in Houston.
Alphonse and Julia lived in Houston after their marriage and were members of Christ the King, Holy Name, and All Saints parishes. He was an active member of a number of organizations including Boy Scouts, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus, All Saints Credit Union, Eucharistic Ministry, Holy Name Society, and Third Age Learning Center.
Alphonse was a World War II veteran serving as a Master Sergeant in the 3rd Army Headquarters Southern Defense Command and the Service Company 5th Infantry European Theater.
Alphonse joined York Corporation in 1936 and retired after 39 years of service in 1975. He then started his own air conditioning and refrigeration business.
Alphonse is survived by his son, Allan Richard Vogel, and his daughter, Gloria Ann Vogel Petzold. Other survivors include his granddaughters Keri Nicole Petzold and Rowan Sharp, his grandson Gerard Alphonse Vogel, his great grandsons Jacob and Logan Molina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at All Saints Catholic Church at 10th and Harvard in the Heights. Viewing will be at 9:00 am, followed by a rosary at 9:30 am, and a Mass at 10:00 am. Interment will be at 3:00 pm at St. Andrew's cemetery in Hillje, Texas. In lieu of flowers, a memorial offering may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of All Saints Church.
