H. Rudy Teichman, 81, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Rudy was born on July 6, 1931 to Emma Sheftall and Henry Nelson Teichman in Galveston, Texas.
Rudy graduated from Kirwin High School and throughout his life contributed the foundation of his work ethic, morals and values to the teachings of the Christian Brothers. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany prior to beginning his lifelong career in the marine industry.
Rudy was considered a hands-on jack of all trades relying on his ingenuity, experience and dedication to improve his industry and community.
Rudy was proud of his roots and the significant role his family played in the Island's history. He loved his native Galveston Island and integrated himself into the community throughout his life. Known for his generosity, Rudy never turned down a request and never expected recognition. He was honored to have served on the Galveston City Council and Galveston Wharves Board and to support the Galveston Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments and the United States Coast Guard. Rudy served on several Boards and received numerous awards for his contributions to the marine industry and community.
Rudy was known as an inland boat Captain, licensed private airplane pilot, machinist, diver, fire fighter, salvage master, welder, diesel mechanic, inventor, cook, restaurateur, parade captain, King Frivolous LXXX, trumpeter, and just plain Rudy T.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his beloved grandmother, Josephine; his beloved father-in-law, William "Bill" Spence; and George Townsend.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Henry Kevin, and wife Erin; his daughter Kelly; his youngest son Brian; his four grandchildren, Ashton, Henry Hunter, Rudy Holt and Curtis; his sister, Julie Teichman Coltzer and husband William; sister, Carolyn Teichman Urbani and husband Angelo, all of Galveston; his brother-in-law Jim Spence, and wife Gayle; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was one of a kind with a unique personality and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Rudy's family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Zompa and Staff, Velma Coleman, Sylinda Garner, Ranay Danek, Hester Dimes, and Setha Yantz for their exceptional and compassionate care.
Honored to serve as casket-bearers during the services are Sonny Broome, Scott Dillion, Jeff Harrington, John Kelso, Ronnie Rouse, H. Kevin Teichman, Kelly M. Teichman, and Brian H. Teichman.
Honorary pallbearers are the employees of T&T Marine, Eddie Janek, Earl Kalsnes, Berdon Lawrence, George P. Mitchell, and Joe Max Taylor.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening with a rosary at seven o'clock in the evening, Sunday, August 19th, in the sanctuary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 14th and Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77550.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at three thirty in the afternoon on Monday, August 20th, also in the sanctuary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Guests are kindly asked to park facing the Seawall on 14th Street in front of the Church. Interment will follow in the family cemetery ground at Lakeview Cemetery located at 3015 57th in Galveston, Texas.
