James Moore Obituary

JAMES RAYMOND ("JIMMY") MOORE, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2013 at Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena, Texas. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends.
Jimmy was born on July 2, 1927 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Herman F. and Sarah Armstrong Moore. He was the seventh of eight children. Jimmy grew up in Virginia and graduated a semester early from Newport News High School in 1945 so that he could join the United States Marine Corps. In the Marines, he received a medal for sharpshooting and served in the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. He married the love of his life, Dorothy ("Dot") Medley, in 1949. After his service in the Marines, Jimmy became an engineering technician with the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory, a division of the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics, a precursor of NASA. He transferred, with NASA, to what would become the Johnson Space Center in 1962, where he was a fixture in the Communications Division, receiving numerous performance awards, until he retired in 1987.
He was known for his friendliness and a quick, ready sense of humor. He and Dot became accomplished square dancers and traveled the world after his retirement. He was active in several seniors' groups in Pasadena and is a former member of the Classic Club of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Dot and Jimmy were "adopted" by many cats over the years and loved them all dearly.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers (Herman, Arnold, and Eugene) and three sisters (Florence, Vivian, and Mary). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Medley Moore of Pasadena, son Darrell James Moore of Johnson City, Tennessee and his companion Laurie Elliott, and son Steven Raymond Moore of Alvin, Texas and his companion Darla Gilmore. He also leaves two grandchildren Melissa Blazer and husband Adam of Jonesborough, Tennessee and Bradley James Moore and wife Christy of Knoxville, Tenn. as well as four great grandchildren Tava Woodard, Jace Woodard, and Addison Blazer of Jonesborough, Tenn. and Kaley Moore of Knoxville, Tenn. Jimmy also is survived by sister Colleen Penny and husband Cliff of Alexandria, Louisiana, brother-in-law Horace Medley, Jr. and wife Wilma of Fort Worth, Texas, sister-in-law Bette Byram and husband Jim of Bedford, Texas, sister-in-law Fran Moore of Tampa, Florida, and a multitude of good friends.
A visitation was held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home.

Jim was a great help and a great person to work with as we all worked to bring Building 44 on line and put together the ESTL, first in B420 then finally in B44 He always seemed to manage to get us whet we needed at the time. God bless him!
