Harold Sloan Obituary

Harold Kenneth Sloan - SAVANNAH - Harold Kenneth Sloan left this world peacefully on December 7, 2014. He was born on July 19, 1958 in Leesburg, Florida, moved to Tybee Island at the age of 14, and never looked back. He was a sweet generous soul who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He had many passions, but mostly he loved to surf, fish, and listen to music. No one knew more rock-n-roll trivia than Harold! He could tell you birthdays, spouses, favorite instruments, hobbies, and anything else you'd care to know about Ozzie Osborne, Tony Iommi, Tommy Lee, Axl Rose, David Lee Roth, and even Marilyn Manson (and others too numerous to count). More than anything, though, Harold loved his many many friends. He gave everyone nicknames, from the Meatman, Flea Tick, Wharf and Victor Meatness to Flea Lee, Mo, Tavarua, Mullet and Killer and so many more (you know who you are). I don't think there's a surfer on Tybee who didn't get a nickname from Harold at some point. Harold was a square peg in every hole. Every time you thought you had him stereotyped, he would break the mold. He could act like a little old lady one minute gossiping about soap operas and shrieking at rats and then break your eardrums playing Black Sabbath the next (if it's too loud, you're too old, he'd say). He could also have an entire conversation using nothing but the word dude and make himself perfectly understood. Harold was a loving son, brother, and friend; he was a loyal employee for over 35 years; he was an exceptional, warm, funny man. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined. His family, friends, and all of Tybee are poorer with the loss of this good-hearted, unique individual. Harold was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Sloan (1989), his mother Martha (Sloan) Victor (2010), and his sister Barbara Sloan (1982) and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law George and Carol Sloan of Charleston, SC and stepfather Daniel Victor of Fernandina Beach, Fl. Please come celebrate Harold's life and share your favorite memories on Monday December 15 at sunrise (7:00 am) on the beach at 18th street. If desired, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in Harold's name. Savannah Morning News December 12, 2014 Please sign our Obituary Guest Book at savannahnow.com/obituaries.
