Catherine Bryant-Knight Obituary

RICHMOND, Va. - Catherine Victoria Bryant-Knight (a native of Augusta) died after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David (Pearl) G. Bryant, Sr. of Augusta, Georgia. At an early age, Catherine joined Thankful Baptist Church of Augusta where she served in the Sunday school, the BYPU and Summer Bible Programs. She attended public elementary school in Richmond County through eighth grade. Catherine graduated from Haines Normal Industrial Institute. While at Haines, she was an outstanding student and received several honors and awards. She attended Paine College and was very active and involved in campus activities. She was chosen "Miss Homecoming" and Representative for the "Miss Paine College Court." While teaching in Sylvania, Georgia, Catherine met and later married Sidney Z. Knight of Florida. From that union, they became proud parents of three children; Earris Delores, Adolph William, and Rudolph Alfred. After her husband was discharged from the military, they moved to Richmond, Virginia and joined the First African Baptist Church. She served many roles in her church such as Deaconess, Margaret R. Johnson Missionary Circle, Church and Pastor's Aide and Youth Conservation group. Catherine completed her college studies at Virginia Union University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and worked as a teacher in the Barrett State Learning Center of Hanover County until retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; daughter, Earris Michaels of Annapolis, Maryland; sons, Adolph William and Rudolph Alfred of Richmond, Virginia. Survivors with fond memories are a brother, William (Betty) Bryant, Sr. of Augusta; a devoted daughter-in-law, Joyce Knight of Richmond; son-in-law, Marvin Michaels of Annapolis, Maryland; three grandchildren of Richmond; ten nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
