Loula Georges Obituary

Argyro "LOULA" Spryridaki Georges

Our mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015, the day before her wedding anniversary. She will be remembered by her loving son, Alexander Georges and daughter-in-law, Denise, by her beloved grandson, Dimitri, her nieces and nephews Athena and Nick Arvanitidis, Alexandros and Sofia Mortakis,
Stavros and Eleni Alevromageiros, her great nieces and nephews Aretoula and Christopher Hickson, Vasili and Abigail Arvanitidis, Alexi and Laurel Arvanitidis, Despina, Anastasia, and Stratis Mortakis, Aristeidis and Maria Alevromageiros, and great-great nieces, Kassandra and Penelope Hickson and great-great nephew Niko Arvanitidis, and many more both here and in Greece. She is reunited with Lambro her husband and her son, Dimitri.

She was born in Athens, Greece on December 6th, 1925. Loula came to San Francisco in 1951 after WWII and the Greek Civil War to join her sister, Aretie Calligas, and take care of her neice Athena. She married Lambros Georges, nephew of Jack Jerome, in 1954. After having two sons, Dimitri and Alexander, they moved from San Francisco to Berkeley in 1958. In 1968, just across from the bustle, glitter, brass, and marble of Macy's, Loula and Lambros opened Lambro's Coffee Shop. A small "haven" - with eleven stools - where she became known as "The Great Lady of the Coffee Shop".

Loula loved and adored all children, and all the children would flock to her. She was an amazing cook, specializing in many Greek desserts - especially her signature "galatoboureko" which was famous both here and in Greece. Loula will be remembered for her warm smile, and caring soul. We are all blessed to have known her and have had her in our lives.

Friends and family are invited to the Trisagion on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 999 Brotherhood Way in San Francisco. A funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, followed by interment at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma.

Loula was a wonderful woman. She had so much love to share with all the children, including mine. When we went to play w/Dimitri, my daughters always had to see Loula for some spoiling. Who could forget those wonderful Loula meals? YUM! Rest in peace, Loula! Love, Kathy, Jessica & Chrissy
