Mary Grandin Obituary

Mary Daneri Grandin

Died peacefully at home and among family on March 14, 2015, a week shy of her 87th birthday .
Mary Cameron Daneri was born in San Francisco on March 21, 1928, the only child of Andrew James Daneri of San Francisco and Eleanor Elizabeth Bevan of Marysville. Mary grew up in Cow Hollow and attended Notre Dame de Victoires, St. Brigid, Convent of the Sacred Heart, and Dominican College, where she graduated in 1950 with a degree in education and a teaching credential.
She taught kindergarten for two years at Bayview School before marrying and starting a family with Henry B. Grandin, Jr. in 1952.
After four years in Philadelphia, the family moved to Marin County in 1956 and Mary became involved in local charities, serving on the boards of Marin Charitable, Marin Art and Garden Center, The Northgate Group, and Dominican College Alumnae; she was also a founding member of the Masque Unit Children's Theater.
She was a member of The St. Francis and San Francisco yacht clubs. Mary and Hank spent 20 summers cruising in Europe on a small sailboat followed by a number of years cruising the East Coast, Great Lakes, and Mississippi River. She was the recipient of the women's cruising award from both clubs.
Mary was predeceased by son Charles and her husband of 55 years, Henry, and is survived by children Michael (Ann), David, Laura, Steven (Miki) and grandchildren Mathew, Sarah (Olivier) and Harley.
A memorial service and reception will be held at a date and place to be determined. Email Michael at [email protected] if you wish to be notified. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dominican University of California – Meadowlands, 50 Acacia Avenue San Rafael, CA 94901 or online.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

I did not know of Mary's passing until today and I want to express my sadness to all the children. We had great fun together in the early days of Ross and Masque Unit among other things. I remember the children very well and I was just thinking of Mary this morning. You will all be in my prayers and thoughts. Fondly, Joan Rorick

From all of Mary's fellow volunteers at Laurel House Antiques in Ross, we extend our deepest sympathy to you, her family. Mary has been a beloved and valued member since 1969. She brought a wry sense of humor and steadfast sensibility to all that she did. She was eminently qualified for her final post as our Historian. She will be genuinely missed.
