Muriel Elizabeth Lustig

Beloved wife of Robert Lustig, passed away, peacefully in her sleep, on March 18, 2015, after a long illness of Alzheimer's Disease. Muriel was born in Geneva, New York, on March 23, 1931. Her mother, Hannah May Stevenson Greer, was born in Dundee, Scotland, and her father, William Greer was born in Liverpool, England. Muriel had two older brothers, Ian and Donald, both deceased. Muriel had no children, but many caring nieces and nephews.
The family moved from New York to Leagrave, Luton, Bedfordshire (32 miles north of London) in 1935, when Muriel was four years old. They lived there, during World War II, until the end of the war in 1945. The family moved to Oakland in 1946, where Muriel completed her education in San Leandro, and started her 16-year career at the Oakland Tribune, writing and editing the real estate ads.
Muriel and Robert (an Oakland architect and artist) met at a Christmas party, and were married in 1956. They were living in the Montclair district of Oakland, where Muriel worked another seven years in the local Montclarion newspaper. They also lived in their beach house in La Selva Beach when Robert was employed in Monterey and Carmel, a favorite of Muriel's. Muriel loved San Francisco, where they dined regularly and Muriel enjoyed shopping in Union Square.
Throughout 50 of their 58 years of happily married life, they traveled to many countries abroad, Muriel's favorites being Scotland and England. Muriel's wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes disposed at sea. There will be a small celebration of her life, with close family and friends, in her home in Montclair, at a date to be determined.
