Hais, Popi COLONIE Popi Hais, 85, of Colonie, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn, Albany. Born on the island of Halki, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Anargyros and Maritsa Xialena Dikas. In the late '50s, she moved to New Jersey to raise her family with her first husband Dimos Efstathiou. After his unexpected passing, she worked as a seamstress to support her two young children. She later met Periklis Hais and the two were married on September 10, 1969. The couple and her brothers owned and operated the Colonie Diner and other successful food establishments in the area. Mrs. Hais enjoyed her family immensely and was always considered "Mom" to everyone who was touched by her kindness. She belonged to St. George Greek Orthodox Church and was a woman of strong faith. Popi will always be remembered for her family values, hospitality and big heart. Mrs. Hais is survived by her adoring husband of nearly 46 years, Periklis Hais; also by her sons, Nicholas Efstathiou (Colleen) and Kostas "Gus" Hais (April Decker) both of Loudonville; her son-in-law, Tony Loupessis of Colonie; her brother, John Dikas (Maria) of Colonie; four grandchildren, Petros and Popi Loupessis and Demos and Catherine "Peppy" Efstathiou; by her step-grandchildren, Taylor, Madyson and Quentin Powell; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family, local and living in Greece. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Marigoula Loupessis; first husband Dimos Efstathiou; and infant daughter, Vallasia Hais; as well as three brothers, Karafilis, Takis, and Konstantinos Dikas. The family would like to thank the 4th floor McAuley wing at St. Peter's for the comfort and care Popi received during her hospital stay. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton Street, Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany, with Trisagion Memorial Service at 7:45 p.m. Interment to take place at Graceland Cemetery, Albany. May your memory be eternal Thea Popi. My memories of you span decades and mostly focus around keeping an eye on Kosta and me in XalkI when I was younger, hanging out enjoying kafethaki when i was older, and spending time getting to my husband the last time we were in Greece together. You were a strong woman who loved deeply. You spoke your mind and I loved your spunk. We will miss you.
