Dearest Mike,
Today is your birthday - another day older you should be. For me - you will always be as I last saw you. Forever 18. You were in my life for years after that, but we were never able to get the "stars to align" to allow us to cross (physical paths) again. You were always just a phone call or email away, it rarely seemed enough. But your friendship and confidence in me always was. I thank you for all that you gave, all that you put up with - and I can't think anything other than you hear me still to this day. Sometimes laughing and sometimes scolding - just as a true friend should.
Until we meet again,
Mandy

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Yashinski Family know that we recently made a small donation to 173d ABN BDE ASSN in honor of Michael E. Yashinski US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

May 2, 2011. A day that went down in our history books. That day, after hearing that O.B.L. had been killed, I was pacing the floors, feeling distraught. My wife asked me what was wrong, all I could muster was "No idea." She responded: " I do, that announcement means that your brother didn't die in vain." Suddenly, I burst into tears, knowing she was right. I have yet to fully come to terms with losing you. Your friendship and devotion came at a time when I needed it most. I feel guilty that I never got a chance to return the favor. In lieu, I make sure that my kids understand their Uncle Mike's sacrifice. We are very proud of you.

My dearest friend, my closest brother, how to put ones emotions to words. For two years, your family was the surrogate for my own, and treated me better than my own. The day I found out the news has been burned into my memory. I will forever miss the the fun and laughter, however, your legacy lives on. My kids address you as uncle Mike and I hope they will continue to do so. You were the closest thing I had to a brother my own age. I wish that things didn't end the way they did. RIP dear friend, you made us all proud.

Happy Birthday, Michael Emerson. Today is so bittersweet as we try to remember the days with you without the sadness of knowing there will be no more. No more phone calls filled with both laughter and you chewing me out when I needed it, no more emails, no more dreams and plans, no more you. It really is overwhelming sometimes, that you weren't able to come home and live the life you deserved. I miss you Michael, more every day.

Michael, the time gets closer to the anniversary of your loss and my heart pains me even more. I miss you so much and what might have been. I hear of your friends getting married and know I will never meet your soul mate. I get pictures of your buddies kids and know that I will never hold your child in my arms and never hear the word Grandmother. I worry about growing old and having no one to take care of me. Throughout the year honey I take care of the families of your beloved 173rd Airborne Brigade Fallen Soldiers and that keeps me busy and focused but nothing helps during December when all I can think about is you and my loss. I love and miss you -my buddy, my love, my Hero, my Beloved Son. Mom

You are not forgotten Ski. Christmas Eve will always be different for those you served with in the 173d Airborne Bde. Standing in formation to show our repect, we saw you fly home that night, 24 Dec 2003, not just the company but hundreds of Soldiers from all over the base formed up in the cold, damp night to pay respects to you. I sat with your two Soldiers later that night and we talked about you and all the things we would miss about you. On Christmas Day I asked the company to forever look back and remember you every Christmas Eve for the rest of their lives. I know they are today. I spoke to my youngest daughter about you today after visiting Soldiers at Landstuhl and giving them presents and cookies. I remember your integrity, humor, your mission first drive. You mastered being a great Soldier and had dreams of a bright future as a civilian that were not realized, so I say... carry on, brave Paratrooper.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I went to Basic training with Mike at Fort Sill. He went to Fort Gordon to become a Signal Soldier and I stayed at Fort Sill to become an artilleryman. We eventually met up again at Fort Bragg,NC. That was our first duty station.
I knew him for almost 4 years and we had alot of good times together.I spent time at his grandfathers house at Camp Lejune. I met alot of his family.
I still have an avalanche hockey puck that he gave me before I left Fort Bragg to go to Germany.
He will be sorely missed. Sorry it took me so long for me to write anything Momma Ski, but I like to think that he is still running around out there somewhere.

Michael, I miss you more today than yesterday and less than tomorrow. You were on loan to me for such a short while. Rest in Peace, my baby, my buddy, my son. I love you.

Dear Mr & Mrs Yashinski,
I believe This to be the same man that I went to elementary school with in Morrison Co, but I'm not positive. I do recall Michael teaching me how to make a beaded hat band to sell at a mountain man competition. I am truly sorry to hear of your loss & I am honored to know your son for the short time that I knew him before he moved away. He is truly an American Hero. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief.

Dear Deb and Ski,
We share in your loss very much. Today as you celebrate Michael's life, we will be with you in spirit. Michael died a hero and you both should feel very proud that he followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps. God be with you both today as well as in the days ahead. We love you.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Yashinski,
Although I did not know your son nor do I know you, I felt compelled to send my condolences for your loss. Your son was a brave man. He died a hero. I know you are probably hearing that a lot right now, but please know that it is from the heart of most who say it. God bless you at this terrible time of loss, and God be with you as you go through the rest of your lives. Know that your son lives on in your hearts and memories.
Sincerely,
Nancy Estell
