I saw the memorial article today in the NY Times. My condolences on your loss. I have very fond memories of Howard as a child when all I did was draw pictures of airplanes. He showed me several techniques, including shading and modeling to make my pictures look three dimensional. Howard was very generous with his time with me. I still have several of the first day covers he sent to me for the stamps he created, as well as those of Robert McCall, another illustrator. He was very thoughtful of me and I have thought of him many times since I left Oyster Bay.
