MAY 27, 1925 - JULY 13, 2016
Glenn Ayers Walden, age 91, of San Antonio passed away peacefully listening to Gospel music on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. He was born on May 27, 1925 to Nicholas Edward Walden and Mary Elmina Ayers Walden in Ringling, OK. Following the death of his mother when Glenn was 3 years old, Glenn and his sister were raised by their loving grandparents, George Washington Ayers and Nancy Chastain Ayers. It was "Ma Ayers" who instilled the Good News of the Gospel and who gave Glenn his first harmonica and a love of music, which provided him with much joy in the early and later years of his life. Glenn lived his Faith through the sincere love and caring he expressed to everyone he met. Glenn knew no strangers and was loved by all.
Employed as a farm and ranch hand in his teen years, Glenn had already established his own cattle herd before entering the Army at age 18. Glenn was an expert horsemen having ridden since the age of 3 and he served in the US Army's Horse Calvary. Glenn could ride like the wind. Glenn served in the Army during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Service Star for combat duty in Burma. It was during his latter Army years that he met Ursula Lucille Bernardoni at the Fort Sam Houston USO. After that meeting, Glenn vowed never to let her out of his life and called her every day until they married on July 16, 1946 following his discharge from the Army. Glenn and Ursula promptly started their family. Glenn had a 45 year career as an optician with Texas State Optical, and was a favorite of many North Star Mall TSO patrons.
Glenn was an avid outdoorsman who loved being in the woods hunting with his hounds, son and hunting buddies. Glenn loved animals and was considered a "horse whisperer" and "dog whisperer" by many observers. At age 83 Glenn renewed his love of harmonica and joined the Alamo Harmonica Organization of Texas (HOOT). Glenn truly loved playing music and socializing with his friends at HOOT.
Glenn joined his beloved wife, Ursula, in Heaven in time for their 70th Anniversary. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandparents, and sister, Eileen Walden Laird. Glenn adored his family, and they adored him. He is survived by his 4 children, Glenda Walden Carroll (Dennis), Sharon Walden, Steven Walden (Mardy), and Christine Chesnut (James); 8 grandchildren, Nicholas Carroll, Colleen Carroll, Bridget Carroll Eaton (Christopher), Stephanie Walden Hartman (Ryan), Marisa Walden Lacey (Phillip), Shane Walden, Matthew Lynde Chesnut (Michelle) and Jacob Chesnut (Alex); and 3 great grandchildren: Taylor Glen Hartman, Aaron Glenn Eaton, and Benjamin Casey Lynde Chesnut.
Glenda, Sharon and Steven are grateful to their sister Christine and her husband for the extensive assistance to Glenn in his latter years. The family also thanks Mystic Park Care Center staff for the loving care they provided Glenn.
Services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of his life at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, Texas. You are invited to sign the guestbook at www.porterloring.com

Glenn was the husband of my long time friend, Ursula. Glen and Ursula were blessed with a wonderful family and years of a loving relationship. I feel blessed having known them and happy to know that they are once again together.

Glenn Ayers Walden I love you very much and I am honored to be your favorite daughter in law. The fact that I am the only daughter in law is unimportant. May you rest in peace in the living arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
