Maria Petrini Obituary

Maria Petrini

Maria Santiago Coit Rodriguez Petrini passed away October 11, 2016 after a long wonderful life. Mary was born January 14, 1922 at home in Halawa, Kohala District, on the Big Island of Hawaii. She was the eighth of 13 children born to Ramon and Nuncia (Lucy) Santiago whose families came from Puerto Rico to work on the sugar plantations. After graduating from the eighth grade Mary went to work in housekeeping to help the family. She enjoyed a happy childhood in Hawaii with her many brothers and sisters with whom she continued a close relationship throughout her life.
She married Manuel Coit in 1939 and had sons Edwin in 1940 and Melvyn 1943. In 1954, Mary and her sons moved from Hawaii to Vallejo, then to San Francisco where she married Rafael Rodriguez. They later settled in Daly City. Mary enjoyed traveling, sewing and cooking excellent family dinners while spending time with her wonderful family in both California and Hawaii. She traveled to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Mexico and the western United States. In 1980 she married Alfred Petrini and enjoyed many happy years with more traveling to Hawaii and Europe until Alfred's death in 2000.
Mary is survived by her sons, Edwin (Sandi) Coit in Waikoloa, HI, and Mel (Cathy) Coit; grandson Dean (Nicole) Coit, with great-grandchildren Logan, Harley and Kendylle Coit as well as her grandson Matthew Coit, all of Millbrae, CA. She is also survived by her sister Christina Texeira of Sacramento, CA, sister Rose Garcia of Miami, Fl., brother Frank Santiago of Hawi, HI, and sister Ramona Pacheco of Hilo, HI, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary will be missed by her family for her loving ways, her unyielding commitment to the success of her family, her wonderful sense of humor, and her lust and passion for life.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Dunstan Catholic Church at 1:30 pm, 1133 Broadway, Millbrae.
