Doris Swain Obituary
Deje attended Westminster Choir College at Princeton, studied under Leonard Bernstein, and walked to classes with Albert Einstein. With her beautiful vocal abilities she taught theatre and music at St Mary's Hall for 10 years and taught piano and voice in her home for 40 years. Continuing to teach, she worked with residents in her Brookdale home. Many of her student's lives were touched through her musical talents.
Lunch outings and Skipbo games were a highlight for her daily routine. Using her energy to raise funds for the Alzheimer Memory Care gave her much delight. She enjoyed her time with people of all ages.
Deje is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Arlie Hayslett, and her daughter Debra Swain. She is survived by her sister Joan Schiffeler, son Robb and wife Lorrie Swain and grandchildren, Colby (Kathryn), Brandon (Katherine), and Dillon Swain.
Her memorial service will be held at St David's Episcopal Church San Antonio, TX.
On July 12, at 2:OO pm. The Rev Lisa Mason presiding.
In lieu of flowers, please consider the Ronald McDonald House San Antonio.

Oh Deje,
I still think of you everyday. I didn't know you had passed away.
I'm sorry. I love you so much and I think about you all time. You encouraged me to sing and always spent time with me. I loved going places with you and spending time with you

Deje was a pure light, an inspiration, and a dear soul. Our lives have been more beautiful for her part in them, and we give thanks for having known her.

I remember one of her music classes at SMH where she asked all of us 5th graders to lie down all over the floor and close our eyes and then she walked us through this meditation where we floated up into the sky and the clouds felt like marshmallows and the wind was like silk and then she brought us back down to Earth to start class. She was ahead of her time. That was 40 years ago and I still remember. Loved her!
