Louise Baker Obituary

Baker, Louise S. PLATTSBURGH Louise S. Baker, 91, a longtime resident of Latham, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. Louise Charlotte Schulze Baker was born in Oneida, N.Y. on May 28, 1926, the daughter of Paul and Anna Marie (Lojar) Schulze. She graduated from Oneida High School with honors in 1944 and was a 1948 graduate of the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, excelling in a class that was dominated by men. Louise married George Carleton Baker in June of 1948 in Durhamville, N.Y.; George passed away in 1983. Together with George, she provided a loving and supportive home to seven children. She was active with the Hudson Valley Community College Faculty Wives Club. Louise became a disciplined bookkeeper and then excelled in tax preparation in the Latham and Albany areas for Jackson Hewitt for over 15 years. For decades, Louise was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered with FISH and the Albany Regional Food Bank. Louise enjoyed spending time watching her children and grandchildren, participate in various sports and theater productions. She also enjoyed cheering on the Syracuse University football and basketball teams. Since the age of four, Louise was a master at pinochle. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and game shows, and had a fondness for gardening and flowers, as well as being an excellent cook. She particularly enjoyed preparing holiday meals for her family. Survivors include three sons, David (Teresa) Baker of Silverton, Ohio, Dr. Richard (Megan) Baker of Pittsford, Vt., and Donald (Debra) Baker of Evans, Ga.; four daughters, Susan (Richard) Kelley of Plattsburgh, Sally (Keith) Lee of Gurnee, Ill., Dr. Lisa (Mark Oldham) Baker of Paw Paw, Mich. and Amy (Todd) Dupell of Cicero, N.Y.; fourteen grandchildren, Bryan Kelley, Matthew Kelley, Kate Baker, Ben Birch, Anna Baker, William Baker, Eliza Corsones, Sienna Shaw Baker, Evan Baker, Milo Tarnowski, Carleton Oldham, Kaileigh Oldham, Ethan Dupell and Wyatt Dupell; and five great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George Baker; sisters, Anne Teachout and Betty Koons; and brothers, Paul Schulze and Bruno Schulze. The memorial service will be on June 3, at 6 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Oneida. Burial will follow on June 4, at 10 a.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneida.
