Lydia Barbetti Obituary

Lydia Barbetti

Our Matriarch

Sept 21, 1923 -
June 12, 2018

"We were privileged to learn many valuable lessons from Lydia during her 94+ years: how to make a perfect brandy manhattan, travel with a red suitcase and "Ladies, wear a slip…"

At the age of 18, Lydia moved to South San Francisco where she met and married Robby Barbetti. They set out making friends that would last a life time. For 76 years, Lydia was a familiar face all around South City. She worked at: Swift, Alfred's Cleaners, JC Penny's, Spruce School, Liberty Market, Galli's Sanitary Bakery and D&M Liquors. After each of her multiple "retirements", Lydia could be found having coffee at Ed's Diner or Donut King. She was a member of the SSF Women's Club, the NoBETUS', South City Windbreakers, ICF, Moose Lodge, and All Souls Church. Lydia was the original 'It Takes a Village' for any and all lost or wandering souls; whether connected by love or blood many called Baden & Almond Ave home.

Lydia enjoyed her family, her friends and her life. She never missed a party, kicked up her heels on the dance floor and enjoyed being involved in everyone's lives. Lydia was a constant attendee at birthday parties, graduations, school functions and sporting events. Her "sassiness" and spirit live on.

Lydia will be lovingly remembered by her six children: Roberta Sciandri, Deborah McGrath (John), Stephen Barbetti, Rebecca Barbetti (John Cort), Teresa Barbetti and Carla Barbetti (Steve Lucas):15 grandchildren, Rebecca Griffin (Andy), Ronald Sciandri (Melinda), Ryan Sciandri (Nicole), Heather Mann(Billy), Tiffany Jones, Robert and Christopher Cozad, Russell and Mariah Barbetti-Cort, Vanessa Barbetti-Cort-Haggard (Robert), Donya Edwards (Curtis), Cherie Brito (Andreas), Robert Barbetti, Courtney and Kyle Lucas, by her 15 great-grandchildren, Scian, Tanner, Lucius, William, Paul, Giulia, Josh, Ryan, Michael, Zachary, Mya, Nina, Elektra, Alex and Abby, by her sisters, Mercedes Martinez and Aggie Hanchey and by her brother Henry Mendoza. Lydia is cherished by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and very dear friends. Lydia was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Eugene Barbetti, her brothers Gilbert Mendoza, Eugene Esparza and her son in-law Ron Sciandri Sr.

Lydia's celebration of life will be held July 21 at Dominic's 911 Marina Blvd, South City Marina between 11 and 4. A private interment will be held at a later date.

I am so sorry that I did not know of Lydia's passing until 11/18. I knew the Esparza family and the Barbetti family well. I babysat for the two oldest Barbetti children, Roberta and Debbie. I am happy that Lydia had a long, wonderful life. She was a great lady, fun to be with, and a very caring person.

Blessings to Barbetti family.
