Paul Wallace Obituary

Paul Revere Wallace

Paul Revere Wallace passed away of natural causes on August 19, 2018, at home surrounded by his family. His wife, Bessie Mary Wallace, predeceased him in 2016 days after their 70th wedding anniversary. Born in San Francisco on October 10, 1922, Paul was the third and youngest son of Katherine Beatrice and Roy Robert Wallace. In 1941, after graduation from George Washington High School, Paul enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he met Bessie at the war's conclusion. Paul's early career as a retail bakery supply rep eventually led to ownership of his own bakery supply company. At 43, Paul changed careers finding true passion with the Treasure Island Federal Fire Department. After 20 years he retired as Battalion Chief. He will be remembered for his dedicated service and passion as a union representative and position as 5th District Vice President of the California Professional Firefighters. He advocated for shortening the 72-hour work week and paved the way for improvements in salary and benefits. Before and after retirement Paul was active as an agent for Police and Firemen's Insurance Association and in fraternal and civic organizations including Elks Lodge, Sons in Retirement, Native Sons of the Golden West and the Parkside Improvement Club. His interests included membership in the Eighth Air Force Historical Society and the Stanford University Buck Club. Paul is survived by his daughters Pat Wallace, Barbara Wallace, Lorraine Bockmier (Dan), Diane Kim (Christopher) and Wendy Malecek (Michael) and grandchildren Lucy, Margaret and Henry. Funeral services Thursday, August 23, 10:00 am at St. Gabriel's Church, 2559 Ulloa Street, San Francisco. Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice or the George Washington High School Alumni Association https://mkt.com/sfgwhsalumni.

Paul was my friend, my mentor and my "surrogate Father" when my Dad died in 1984 at the age of 55. We remained close friends to the end of his life and I will always be thankful that he shared part of his life with my own. Rest well, my friend. You definitely earned it.

So long, Big Red. I'm sure Heavem's touch football team will be adding a fullback to the offense by the end of the week.

We used to sit in the pew in front of Paul at Mass until he was no longer able to attend.
It was a blessing to have our lives touched by him, and Bessie until she passed away, in even such a small way as that.
