To the family of CWO Patrick Dorff:

As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!

Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.

As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Dorff Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Patrick Dorff US Army Chief Warrant Officer. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

Pat,
Thank you for the freedom that you have provided us... had a chance to think about you over the 4th. I'm trying to train my boys when it is the proper time to take off your cap and put it over your heart. But the most important thing is WHY we do that. My oldest son Ben asks about you all the time and he really looks up to you, we have been to visit a couple times and it has always been his idea.

My Brother,
Bravery, service, love and commitment were all words that you lived by and that is something I will always be proud of. I dig deep many times in search of the good times we shared growing up. Although the years have seemed to fly by, you still remain in all our hearts and we are comforted knowing that you are under the wings of our heavenly father. We love and miss you dearly.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

To the family of CWO Patrick Dorff,

Something led me to your guestbook tonight...I pray that his little girl will know the sacrifice her daddy made in the Name of God. As with Deborah who led ISRAEL (Isacc, Sarah, Rebekka, Abraham, EL = God in HEBREW) out of captivity so did this proud soldier who gave his life freely to his God GIVEN Country. As a mother of nine children, I cannot imagine the grief that sneaks up to you when you feel you have just made another day and something out of nowhere digs into the pit of your soul and you are in tears...remember we all long to be with our Father and what a more proud beginning of his eternity than Patrick had...(I have a son named Patrick).

I found a poem that says most of what I feel about the pride I feel personally for this special soldier.

My Country Under God

My Country, Land of the brave and the free;

Many Nations live in envy, for they long to be like thee;

Men of honor, fight to keep our rights;

Many women sleep alone at night;

My country, I look to thee with pride not shame;

We do many things in God's name;

Our currency carries "In God We Trust";

For in God's hands, He carries us;

My Country, cares for all those around;

We feed the hungry, help others stand their grounds;

For years we freely, carried others safely across our boarders,

Giving them the chance to live, where there is law and order;

My Country, I am so proud to call you mine;

Although you have changed some, over time;

Still when the world turns there back on you;

Men and Women of this great Country, are there to help you through;

My Country, Blessed by God above;

He smiles down upon us, with much love;

For no matter, if we sometimes loose site of wrong or right;

As a whole, on God, we haven't lost sight;

My Country, One Nation under God we stand;

As we take a brother by the hand;

United we stand, proud and strong;

When times are the worst, we seek God's throne;

My Country, under God;

Many soldiers feet have gladly trod,

For we are and will always be;

The United States of America, the land of the free!

Dearest Dorff Family.

May the good Lord bless and keep you. May He surround you with His angels to help you gently through the hardest of times. May He grant you quiet peace and rest. May He help you remember with great joy all the years when Patrick was with you. May he give you abundant laughter as you recall the funny times and the best of times. This is my prayer for you.

My son also gave his life for another -- just before Christmas. 2002.

He was 47 years old with a wife and two teenagers. We have gone forward through this unbelievable sorrow. You will, too. I now have a grandson in Iraq; another who will leave in a few months, who has requested overseas duty; and yet another stationed at the Mountain Warfare Training Center in CA.

Each night, my husband and I say a rosary for all of our dear ones. Your son will also be included in our prayers as will all the heros who serve, and serve well. God bless all of you. I understand your pain. Take heart -- God will provide.

Please accept our deepest sympathy and prayers. Our son is also serving with the 10th Mountain Divison, 3-17 Cavalry from Ft Drum, New York. Justin met Patrick on their assignment to Iraq and really enjoyed talking to him. It was a comfort to our son to talk to him because it was someone from "home". Our son is serving his first year in the military and was very frightened of what awaited him in Iraq. Knowing someone who knew relatives of ours made it a bit easier for our son. He, too, will miss Patrick.

We know how proud you are of your son/husband/father - we feel very honored and proud to have known such a fine man was serving our country,protecting us and doing good for those who are seeking freedom in Iraq. God Bless you all.

I am so saddened at the loss of Pat. I have so many great memeories of him all the way back to when we met in Kindergarten! I lived across the lake from him and we stayed friends. He was a great friend to have! He had so many friends and didn't have a mean bone in him! I was so thankful to have him as a project partner in my hardest High School class ever, I dont think I would of passed Mr. Ausse's World Studies class w/o him! I also would of never been to a turtle race if I hadn't gone to the family cabin with him! In my yearbook he talked about leaving to fly those "awesome flying machines!" He had his dream and exceeded at it! There are so many great memories of him. He will be sorely missed and we will do whatever we can for his family! Jamie and Brisa we will ALWAYS be here for you. It was a honor to know him! Your family will be in our prayers. He will alway be remembered as a great friend and hero who gave the ultimate sacrafice trying to save a fellow soldier!

To the Dorff family,

Words seem completely inadequate at a time like this, but please know that I am so sorry for the loss of your brother, son, husband & father.

I was a classmate of Chris's from Kindergarten straight through High School, and Pat was the same age as my younger brother. I remember Pat as my "kid brothers friend" (he was such a cute little kid!), and from what I have read lately, it sounds as if he grew to be quite a caring & loving husband and father.

We will not forget the sacrifice that you & your family have made, Pat, and will keep your family in our prayers. My 5 & 7 yr old sons have prayed every night since the war began "....and please keep the soldiers safe in Iraq"....we will now pray for your family here on earth, until they see you again in heaven.

I knew Pat in high school. He had a bright smile and an easy going spirit about him. The opportunity to fly in a small plane he piloted from Buffalo to Brainerd and back has always been one of my fondest and most cherished memories. I owe Pat my many thanks for this, and moreso for serving our country and protecting its freedom. He is truly a Hero. My heart goes out to Pats family and to his friends in deep sympathy. May God Bless and Comfort all of you during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to Patrick's family and friends. I will always be thankful for the sacrifices Patrick made for our Country and the Freedom of all. My heart goes out especially to his wife and child. I know all too well how difficult it is to loose a husband/father so young. (I lost my husband when he was only 36.) Loving memories, the passing of time, and faith help to ease the pain. And Leanne and Greg, you have suffered so much tragic loss in such a short time - I often wonder how much your broken hearts can take!! May God be with you, give you the courage & strength to carry on, and give you "pockets of peace" when you need them the most. Please know that in the days and months ahead, your grief will be held close in the hearts of those that truely care. For every tear that falls, there will be a prayer in my heart for you.

To the Dorff family.We are so sorry to learn of the death of Patrick . Here is a poem I wrote when we lost our 21 year old son in a car accident in 1997 while we were living down in Montrose Mn. I hope it will help you through the very difficult days ahead. " I AM NEVER FAR AWAY"When the skies they seem so cloudy, and the sun doesnot shine. Remember you can always talk to your master devine.... The sun always shines up in heaven , Although we can not see, The presence of our precious Lord is always near you and me. .. So always remember my loved ones. I will never be far away. Rather the sun is shining. Or the skies are overcast and grey, By Phyllis Aspen God Bless.

As a highschool classmate of Pat's, the thing I remember most of him was how he was always smiling, laughing and how happy he was. I sat next to him in Mr. Ause's World Studies class and worked with him on some projects. Pat was a very intelligent guy and great to be partnered with. Pat was always a great guy, so I know that he was also a great son, brother, husband, father and friend to all that he knew. I will always remember and appreciate the sacrifice that Pat and his family have made for our freedom. It's an honor to have known Pat.

Pat,

I vividly remember with great happiness the day you stood at the side of your brother, Chris, and I at the side of my sister, Lori, as they were joined in marriage. On that day, our families were joined also, for better and for worse. Our sorrow is profound. Through God's grace, you live on in our hearts and memories where we may find comfort and peace. I was always proud of you and your commitment to serve this country. I adore Jamie and Brisa. You have left a great legacy that most people cannot claim in their life time. Rest assured, we all will look out for them on your behalf. Allow me to be the guardian angel of your little girl, as I am for my three wonderful nieces, Alyssa, Rachel and Hanna. May God give strength to your mother and father, Chris and Lori, Leanne, Greg and girls, and all the people that love you. Until we all meet again in heaven... (Auntie)'Chelle
