Arthur was born in Haifa, Israel, on April 18, 1930. From 1948 to 1950 he served in the Israeli armed forces. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955 and 1956, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in the same field from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1959.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

As Velta's Arthur's second wife's brother and a reader of Arthur's applied math books, I got to casually know him and hear a lot about him. He was one of the most brilliant and nicest persons I have known. We all shall miss him.
