George BLAIR

1924 - 2020

BLAIR, George Age 96, of Dayton, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Harlan County, KY, to Grant and Sally (Stepp) Blair on March 10, 1924. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rosolene Blair (Baker) in 2014. He also is preceded in death by his brothers, sister and grandson, Brian Young. He is survived by four children, Geri (Blair) Morgan (Pete), George (Frank) Blair (Sandy), Ricky Blair and Jackie (Blair) Askins (Andrew); his grandchildren, Angela (Morgan) Strassburg (Gary), Robert Young, Jennifer Blair, Rebecca (Blair) Jantonio (Nick), Michael Blair, Stormy (Marshall) Nguyen (Jon), Mandy Askins, Avery Askins and Joshua Blair (Amy); his 18 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brian, Amanda, Samantha, Jordan, Jared, Jackson, Kohner, Maxwell, Rory, Judah, Malcolm, Avery Jr., Aubrey Jo, Aliza, Arlington, Dean, and Grant; and his great-great grandchild, Bradley. George was especially proud of his Army service during WWII, stationed in both Iceland and England during his enlistment. Later, he was active in his VFW post 2800. Moving to Dayton after the war, he worked for Delco Products/GM and retired after 35 years. Dayton is where he met his loving and vibrant wife Rosolene, marrying in 1955, and building a life filled with love, family and friendships. Known by many as "Papa," he always had the biggest and goofiest smiles when he spent time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He inspired those around him to persevere despite adversity, to love unconditionally, and to appreciate the simple things in life. Although he will be dearly missed, he is now in the peaceful hands of God and the loving arms of his wife once again. Family will receive visitors from 5-8 pm Thursday July 23, 2020 at Tobias Funeral Home 648 Watervliet Ave. Dayton, OH 45420. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am Friday, July 24, 2020 at Tobias Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Dayton National VA Cemetery 4100 W. Third St. Dayton, OH 45428.
