Lilias Fretwell Obituary
Lilias Fretwell Chesterfield Lilias Christine Fretwell has passed away at home, after a long battle with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's at the age of 81.
Born in Glasgow in a mother and baby home, her birth mother Jessie could not keep her and Lilias was adopted in 1945 and brought to live in Holmewood.
Living in the Chesterfield area for the rest of her life, Lilias worked as a shorthand typist at TI Chesterfield, then was a clerical assistant at the Post Office headquarters and British Telecom.
Lilias developed a love of the Derbyshire countryside on day trips with her Aunt Nellie and was a keen walker throughout her life. With her husband she shared a love of nature and encouraged the birds, bees and butterflies to her garden. Following the death of her eldest daughter Karen in 1993, she learned to smile again through her love of the countryside, dancing, gardening, spending time with family and friends. She also loved a glass of red wine and had a tremendous sense of humour.
Lilias leaves her husband of 58 years Eric, daughter Joanne, grandchildren James and Daisy, brother David in Scotland, who she found late in life.
The funeral service will take place at Brimington Crematorium, on December 31, 2020, at 11.10am. Donations in memory of Lilias to Dementia UK.
Funeral directors: Chas Widdowson & Son, 33 Hazelhurst Lane, Stonegravels, Chesterfield (01246 273935).
