Harold FERGUSON Obituary

FERGUSON, Sr., D.O.,

Harold A.

Harold A. "Fergy" Ferguson, Sr., D.O., age 91, of Eaton, OH, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at home with his family by his side. He was born January 22, 1929, in Roanoke, VA, to the late Bertice and

Mildred (East) Ferguson. Fergy graduated in 1947 from Jefferson High School in New Lebanon, OH, then received his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and his Doctor of Osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri in 1956. He interned at Grandview

Hospital in 1957 and opened a private practice as a family physician in Eaton, OH, in 1958. Recognizing the expanding medical needs of his community, he co-founded the Preble County Medical Center in 1965 with the vision of better meeting those needs. He continued his practice there until his

retirement in 1993, serving his patients and the community with compassion and wisdom. He also served as Director of the Preble County Mental Health Board. In addition to his

parents, Fergy was also preceded in death by his sisters

Elizabeth Sue Ferguson Pierce and Rebecca Jean Ferguson. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice K. (Cook) Ferguson of Eaton, OH; son Dr. Allen (Missy) Ferguson, Jr., of Eaton, OH; daughters Kim Ferguson of Charlotte, NC, and Denise

Ferguson of Lemont, IL; grandchildren Sarah, Andrew, Lauren, Emily and Natalie Ferguson. He was a wonderful husband,

father and physician, an avid golfer, and a friend to all. Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is

assisting with arrangements. A private graveside service will be held. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Common Good of Preble County, 113 S. Cherry St., Eaton, OH 45320. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting

To Alice, Allan and all the family I send my condolences and prayers. Fergy was one of a kind and a joy to be around. I think the most fun I had playing golf and taking golf trips was with him. He was a great guy who cared and advocated for his patients. RIP Ferg.

Dr Ferguson was an active and long term member of the Family Medicine Department at Grandview Medical Center. His lifelong aspiration was to increase access and the quality of medical care for the residents in Preble County. The culmination of this goal was the opening of the Preble County Emergency Center which he attended in 2015. This opening reflected the last County in Ohio to provide local Emergency Services for its residents.

Alice, Allen and family,
I am so saddened to hear of the loss of your husband and father. The memories I cherish that included yourselves and “Fergy” are so numerous and always bring both smiles to my face or make my eyes leak. Recently I sorted through many photos of our experience at events and or golf courses. Trust me he and those fond memories occupy a large part of my heart and mind. You all will remain fondly in my memory.

Forever,
Bobby
