My wife Ann and I had the pleasure of working with John at Five Rivers MetroParks. I used to kid him about the photos he had of his children which i had mistaken as current but then learned they were from years earlier when they were young. Later, I did the same thing with my children's photos in the office. I had lots of questions for John about his hot tub and how to take care of it when i was considering getting one. John had good advice. I loved hearing about his family trips to Hawaii. I remember visiting John in the FRMP Main Office on Siebenthaler Ave. John, Bernadette Harawa and Kevin Kepler shared the space and they often joined in the conversation. John had to get our MetroParkways published and round up all the articles from folks who often changed items at the last second or procrastinated. John was patient. After he retired from FRMP, John went on some birding hikes with Lynn Modic, Sue Smith and my wife Ann. I think i joined one or two of them. I remember John's smile and conversations about music and recording it. John had a presence of happiness and kindness. His big heart will be missed. I hope you all have a chance to be in beautiful natural places to remember him and celebrate his life.

John was fun to work with; he worked hard to make sure the community knew when the nature walks would be, among many of his other responsibilities, and because of him, we were one of the first park districts to have a web page at the beginning of the 'internet'! I will miss his kind smile, and his enthusiasm for his work.
