I first met James when he was with A C Morrison & Richards in Aberdeen. We lost touch after he moved away but renewed our acquaintance when I was working in Edinburgh and he was in Glasgow and he invited me to a Celtic v Aberdeen game there. Like me, James followed the Dons.

Later in life in retirement, I did some work for the Faculty of Advocates meeting among others, Valerie Stacey, now Lady Stacey and she was able to update me on James' progress by then a Sheriff Principal. He did well.

I am so sad to hear of his passing and although I have never met his family, feel it right to send my deepest condolences at this sad time.

James was a fine ambassador for the legal profession and taken much too early.
