Don was born in Bakersfield, CA to Una Lee Forrester and Jack W. Ferguson and passed away at age 84 in Boerne, TX. Don joined the Air Force in 1954. After basic training at Lackland AFB, he completed his Security Police training and was stationed at Medina Base in San Antonio where he met and married Shirley Artz. During his 26 years of active duty, he was also stationed in Alaska; Abilene, TX; the Philippines; Minot, ND; and Thailand. He retired from active duty while stationed at USAF Security Service, Kelly AFB in San Antonio.
In 1980, Don started his second career at St. Mary's University in San Antonio where he was Superintendent of Grounds for 20 years until his retirement in 2000.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; step-dad and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of 63 years; daughter and son-in-law Sheri and Gordon Howell and grandchildren, Garrett and Madison, along with numerous other close relatives.
A memorial service for Don, with full military honors, is scheduled for April 5, 2021 at 11:00 am with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
