Durward Dunbar
Durward (Woody) Dunbar passed away at age 92 on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. He was born in Stamford, CT on April 12, 1929 to Durward A. and Olga (Thorne) Dunbar. Woody was a veteran of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. As a paratrooper he made over 20 successful jumps and participated in Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1953 Inaugural Parade.
Woody was a carpenter who could fix anything (Mr. Fix-It) and worked on many famous properties, e.g. The Glass House, New Canaan, CT and Gracie Mansion, NYC. He had many passions including aviation, fishing, hunting and was a diehard NY Giants fan. He was known for his sense of humor, big heart and generous spirit.
Woody is predeceased by his adored wife, Marie Dunbar, his son Gary S Dunbar, and grandson Andrew G Kapustynski.
Woody is survived by his loving daughter, Diane C Dunbar and grandson Alexander W Kapustynski, who brought him much joy, love and pride.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maplewood at Orange for their devoted and loving care.
The family will receive friends at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main St, Stratford, CT on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 4 - 7 pm. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 pm followed by military honors. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Woody's name may be made to the American Lung Association.
