Joe L. Gonzales passed away on November 24, 2021 having celebrated his 93rd birthday.
Husband, Pepe, Tio, Uncle, First Sgt., Hot Tamale, Papa Joe, Daddy, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and Great Great-Grandpa. A man known by many names, but all describe a man exemplifying humility, giving, strength, loving and proud. A devoted husband to his wife even after being a widower for 14+ years. A teacher to his children even to his last days. Always cheerful and smiling never passing on sweets or deserts of any kind. A man of few words but words chosen left an impact. He leaves behind his four children Bill Gonzales and wife Martha, Mary Lynda Hughes and husband Mike, Susan Bennett and husband Nick, and Joseph Gonzales III. Preceded in death by two infant children Maria and Patrick. Joe was also a loving grandfather to Bill's children Nick Gonzales and wife Betsy, Melissa de Luna and husband Isaac, Laura Brown and husband Jason, Timothy Gonzales, and Matthew Ruy Gonzales. Mary's children Sara (Jordan) Ashley Hughes, and Tiffany Rachelle Hughes. Susan's children Stephen Wayne Bennett, Christopher William Bennett and Candice Nicole Bennett. Joe was blessed to have great-grandchildren Morgan Elia Gonzales, Ethan Michael Gonzales, Rene E Aranda-Gonzales, Jacob Angel De Luna, Elijah Angel De Luna, Liam Christopher Brown, Avery Grace Brown, Madison Taylor Brown, Christopher Wayne Bennett, Eric Lawrence Bennett, Stephen Wayne Bennett, Destiny Bennett, Noah Bennett, Avellanna Reign Ramirez, Joel Brandon Salinas. Joe was very blessed to have a great great-grandchild Layla Bennett. A visitation for Jose will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205.
A Rosary service will occur Monday, December 20, 2021 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205.
A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1600 St. Cloud, San Antonio, TX 78228.
A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.

My Sincerest and heartfelt Condolences to all the family of 'Papa Joe', as I knew him at S. A. International Airport.
He was such a gentle soul and I always looked forward to my hug. I will see you on the day of Resurrection, until then, rest easy.
