COL. JAMES GARRISON III Obituary

On Nov 27th Ed Garrison set his course to the distant horizon to join his beloved daughter Liz and son Brad in the afterlife. He is at peace. James Edward Garrison III was born on the 21st of September 1946 to parents James Edward Garrison Jr and Mary Louise Howell-Garrison in Florence, South Carolina. His father, Jimmy, was a warrant office in the US Army and the family moved frequently. Ed graduated from high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina and was accepted into USMC West Point Military Academy. There, he formed a bond with his brothers in arms, many of which still last today. Once he graduated, he was appointed to HQ 4th Battalion 517th Artillery in Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone. There he met his first wife, Cindy Green, from Oklahoma City and they were married before he accepted his first assignment in Vietnam where he served as Captain in air defense artillery. Upon returning he was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso TX. Ed then decided to pursue a career in medicine and was accepted into the Medical University of South Carolina in 1973. Ed graduated and was then stationed to Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. While practicing and teaching Neurology, Ed met his second wife Jean Daniels, RN and they were married in 1982. They were then both assigned to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, where Ed was Assistant Director of Medicine. Ed eventually retired from the military in 1988 and they returned to San Antonio where he opened a private practice that lasted for 31 years until his retirement in 2019.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Jean Daniels DDS, son Bryan James Garrison, son Frank Garrison, sister Mary Louise Trask, and his grandchildren, Brennan James Jennings, Sydney Proctor, Chance Garrison, and Jamie Garrison. Also, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews in Beaufort South Carolina and Cottondale Florida. His life was dedicated to his country first, family, patients, and friends. Rest in peace soldier, a job well done.
