Assunta Matteucci and Giulio Giovannini immigrated from Lucca, Italy in 1929 and settled in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood where their only child, Charles was born on September 9, 1933.

He attended Saints Peter and Paul Grammar School (class of 1948), was a member of the Salesians Boys Club, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School (class of 1952). He played on the high school basketball team and his cousin Liana Giovannini, a reporter at the local paper, made sure his photo made the front page of the sports section frequently.

Shortly after graduation, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Tripoli, Libya. Being bilingual, he worked as an interpreter and learned to speak Arabic.

Upon discharge from the Air Force, Charles returned to San Francisco and attended City College on the GI Bill. In 1957, he met the love of his life, MIranda Consorti who was visiting from Rome. They were married at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on September 13, 1958. Shortly after, they moved to Daly City and enjoyed 46 beautiful years of marriage.

Over the years, Charles worked at Fort Mason as a longshoreman, Safeway Supermarket and in sales at ITT Continental Baking, retiring in 1996. He worked part-time at United Airlines, SFO and enjoyed volunteering for many years at St. Anthony's Dining room in San Francisco.

Upon Miranda's passing in 2004, Charles returned to the family home in his beloved North Beach where he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and neighbors.

Charles is survived by his children: Cynthia, Steve and his wife Cherri, John, Anna Maria Xepoleas and her husband David. Grandchildren include Alexandra Regalado and her husband, Christopher; Nicholas Xepoleas; Jennifer Autsen and husband, Josh; Matthew Eaton and very soon his great-granddaughter Regalado… The Circle of Life.
