Steven Frantz Obituary

Steven James Frantz
May 24, 1961 - April 11, 2022
Steven James Frantz, 60, of Berkeley, California, passed away at home on April 11, 2022.
Steve was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 24, 1961. After graduating from Hudson High in Hudson, Ohio, he studied business administration at Case Western Reserve University and Bowling Green University.
Upon receiving his degree, Steve accepted a position in California, launching a 20-year career as a financial data expert, working for organizations such as Teradyne, Pacific Bell Wireless, QRS Inc, Peet's Coffee, The Discovery Channel, LECG, and Dictionary.com.
In 1998, while working at Pac Bell Wireless, Steve met Becke Broadbent. They married in 2001 and settled in Berkeley, California.
Steve was a longtime supporter of and volunteer for Guide Dogs for the Blind. He and Becke raised and trained puppies and provided foster care for the organization. Mr. Tibbs, a black Labrador retriever puppy they raised, was "career changed," allowing Steve and Becke to adopt him. Steve and Tibbs were inseparable for 15 years. Larry, his current Border Collie mix remained by his side until the end.
Steve enjoyed hiking, fishing, music, reading, historical architecture, and cooking. Steve also savored a bit of traveling, usually after considerable encouragement (he was something of a homebody). He enjoyed venturing to Alaska, Costa Rica, and the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, and especially loved an annual Mother's Day camping trip in Big Sur.
In 2019, Steve was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Following the diagnosis, he participated in multiple studies at UCSF Center for Memory and Aging under Bruce Miller, MD and Adam Boxer, MD, PhD.
Steve was predeceased by Edwin Theodore Frantz (father), Hudson, OH.
He is survived by: Elizabeth "Becke" Broadbent (wife), Nicholas Frantz (son) (Jane Keating), Rena Frantz (daughter), Ruth Callie Frantz (granddaughter), Rita Wessel Frantz (mother), Martha Frantz (sister) (Neil Pankler), Sue Halverstadt (sister) (Jake Halverstadt), Elizabeth Frantz (sister) (Hank Janoski) and Tom Frantz (brother) (Jane Frantz).
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to:
