Dr. Glenn Arlen Blake left this troubled world for a better place on June 25, 2022. He was born to Lee Henry and Gladys Jackson Blake on November 11, 1932 in Lampasas, Texas. While attending school there, he was involved in many student activities and lettered in several sports. Upon graduation he was awarded the American Legion Citizenship medal and a small academic scholarship which allowed him to enroll at Texas A&M University.
While attending A&M, he was quickly immersed in Aggie tradition which remained a vital part of his life. He walked on to the Aggie track team and earned a scholarship as a hurdler. He was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, graduated as a distinguished military student, received an officer's commission in the Air Force and a degree in marketing. He completed flight training in Tucson, Arizona and Big Spring, Texas and served as an air-to-air refueling pilot in the Strategic Air Command at Savannah, Georgia and in North Africa under the command of Col. Paul Tibbets. He returned to A&M and continued to fly with the Air Force Reserve at Ellington AFB in Houston.
In 1963 he was accepted at The University of Texas Dental Branch and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He maintained a private dental practice in Houston for forty-three years before retiring in 2005. During his years of practice, he was an active member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association the Greater Houston Dental Society and the UT Alumni Association, serving in various capacities with these professional organizations. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, a Stephen Minister and a Ben Taub Hospital Volunteer. Glenn loved the stage and performed with The Gilbert & Sullivan Society for fourteen years. He continued to support A&M as an active member of the 12th Man Foundation and Texas A&M Letterman's Association.
In 2013, he and wife, Gloria, built their dream home on a ranch in McDade, Texas where they spent much of their time enjoying country living and watching beautiful sunsets. Together they were also members of First Presbyterian Church in Giddings and were active in the Cowboys 4 Heroes organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister, Janie Wilson, and son, Kyle. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; sons Kelly and wife, Judy, and Mitchell and his wife, Sandra; daughters Rebecca, Glynnis, and Amy; step-children Andre, Adam and Alexander Kliebert, April and husband Jerad McMayon; fifteen grand-children and two great grandchildren; sister, Sandra Marshall.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 30, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church-Houston. His ashes will be inurned in the Memorial Garden. The service will also be live-streamed on https://fpchouston.org/ministries/adults/memorials-and-memorial-garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation and Cowboys 4 Heroes.
