Ruth Wagner Obituary

Wagner, Ruth Irene EAST GREENBUSH Ruth Irene Wagner, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 12, 2022. She was born in Pittsfield, Mass. to George and Melinda Jansen. Ruth grew up in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School. On August 8, 1948, Ruth married John Wagner and joined him and his three small children in East Greenbush. Ruth's Christian faith had been an important part of her life. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, and singing. In her younger years, her soprano voice was well recognized in the church choir. Ruth was on the leadership team of the Christian Women's Club for many years. She worshiped at the Loudonville Community Church for most of the past 30 years, where she also participated in several women's groups. Celebrating family holidays, special occasions, traveling with friends and family, and summer vacations to Wildwood Crest, N.J. were among her favorite memories. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, John Wagner Sr. She is survived by her three children, John Wagner (Pat), Lars Wagner (Cherie), and Karen Fox (Erven), eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for all the support and help given to Ruth and her family over the past five years, as well as the Rensselaer County Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Friday from 1 - 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc., 165 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer. I had the pleasure of first meeting Ruth when LCC would hold meetings at Van Ren as part of our Nursing Home ministry. It's funny that we would go there to help encourage Ruth and the other residents, yet I found that it was Ruth that encouraged us! She was just so full of life, so quick with a story, and so engaging. Truly the youngest 99-year old you'd ever meet. And what a witness for the Lord. Who knows how many people she led to Christ during her life, and especially during her stay at the Nursing Home. Well done Ruth. I will miss Ruth, but will certainly see her again one day.

It was always a blessing for me to visit Ruth at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Her demeanor was cheerful while being realistic. She always showed great love for her children and appreciated the care they gave her. She was eager to be part of the worship opportunities provided by volunteers from Loudonville Community Church. She retained strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the long period of pain and disability that preceded her final passing into God's Presence. May all of you in her family know God's joy, comfort and peace as you celebrate her life. Cynthia Hale

To my special friend, Ruth Wagner, whose laugh I will always treasure when I had the honor of picking her up for a ride to Circle. Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with special friends like Ruth Wagner!
